The scanner and All-In-One printers (with scanner capability) does not have a spare bulb that can be bought in the market.

Just like a light bulb, when the filament burns out, it needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, the present day scanners and all-in-one printers (be it... Hewlett-Packard, Epson, Lexmark, Brother, Canon, etc) does not sell one.

So basically they are DISPOSABLE!!! Once they are burn out, you need to buy a whole new unit. In case of the all-in-one printer, it loses one functionality. If it is a fax-scan-copier-printer in one, then you lose the copier, scan and sending fax function.... (So basically, you just have a receive only fax and a printer)

Bottomline... It is not advisable to buy an All-In-One printer. It will cost more in the long run.

The next big innovation in scanner and all-in-one printer is to have a spare bulb. That would really be a unit which you can use for a lifetime.

The technology is here (Of course...)

I think it has something to do with marketing. The big companies wants you to buy a whole new unit instead of replacing a spare part !!!

The future of scanner and all-in-one printers are those which are sincere enough to have a spare bulb. I am certain, those who release that in the market will be a big hit!!!

If that new product comes out in the market, please do post it here...
But I guess... not in our lifetime...

But maybe...just maybe... someone from the big companies is reading this and make the necessary changes.

Kinda like the iPod with an Apple replaceable battery ONLY for ~$200. But, by then we're all likely to upgrade to a new and better unit anyway. Right?[ :D]

    Cheers,

I'm not sure I agree. The life of the bulb is so long, you'd have to be scanning thousands of pages to burn it out in a few years. At that point, it's probably better to replace the entire machine.
