Can you point me to it? I can;t find Sandisk SSD on ebay.
I tried searching Sandisk SSD, Sandisk solid, Dell SSD. no results.
@ flamenko when do you think you can publish some results on the 64GB samsung?

thanks rachuk.
anyone an idea why i am not getting these search results? I'm searching worldwide but nothin shows up. -
Are you typing www.ebay.com? If you are, clean your cookies because it is possible that you are still being directed to a different ebay site.

I thought i could search anywhere in the world. how weird. thanks. and sorry to be offtopic. -

Yes and this is the same case with some of the 2.5 systems that have the carriage. In the end, however, the SSD is still shaped exactly the same as the HD and fits properly. Is this not similar with the 1.8's and carriages?
-
I just realized there was a specific thread for ssds...has any tried asking dell canada if you can get ssd refurbs from them?
-
I can ask directly tomorrow if you would like. I deal with head office in Edmonton.
-
And an ad for the 64GB Samsung.
http://www.samsungssd.com/video/ssd.html -
Im going to guess you never saw the article i just finished with that add as well as another in it. See my signature block.
-
Well as this has been the reference thread would be better to have everything together.
-
Yes. I actually have referenced this thread in the article. I found the article necessary as the amount of questions i have been getting about what exactly an SSD is and how it can better a system.
-
Well NewEgg is now listing the 128GB SSD drive now but at totally joke pricing.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609245 -
This is not far off Super Talents estimate of $4600 so...ITS A DEAL!!! lol
-
You can pick up a Transcend 32 gb SATA drive from their site for 386 dollars.
http://ec.transcendusa.com/product/ItemDetail.asp?ItemID=TS32GSSD25S-M. -
I thought that was great at first then read this...
Read up to 26MB/s, Write up to 13MB/s -
Is that why the transcend drive is cheap because of the slow read and write speeds?
-
It would have to be...those speeds would be very obvious on any system with respect to performance.
-
Well the Dell UATA drive turned up today but i have no idea how i am going to fit it inside my computer.
I don't think that it possible or is it?
I don't see any sata convertor there, do i need to buy an adapter or do i just send it back to Dell?
Did i buy the wrong thing? Sorry about the bad quality pictures i took them with my phone.
-
Did you order the Sandisk 32Gb SATA drive? It should look exactly like the HD you pull out. That def is not it.
-
Where can I buy a Sandisk 2.5" 32GB SATA drive? Also, where can I buy the 1.8" 32GB drive?
-
You can get both from Dell.com. You can also get the 1.8" from dvnation
Does anyone have tips about getting the 1,8" from Europe ? Excepted dvnation and dell.fr.co.uk/etc. ? It's freaking expensive through Dell here... -
-
I found this on eBay. Its extremely cheap? How come
SanDisk 192MB

Thats the first i have even heard of that drive...192Mb??? And I have been in touch with Sandisk talking about their drives.
-
Oh, its MB not GB. My fault
And I just placed a bid, great
EDIT: Bid cancelled..pheeww -
Lucky You on that one...thats real odd though; Ill try and check it out later today.
-
192MB? LOL.. that's not something i've seen! good thing u were able to cancel your bid
-
Memory Right is a company that is based in China so if they are selling these drives in the UK that have been imported for £600 you know that you can find them cheaper in Asia but where? I cannot say that i have ever heard of this company Memory Right before though.
http://www.futurestorage.co.uk/store/comersus_listItems.asp?idCategory=51 -
You know this is IDE SSD and not SATA???
-
Thanks for that Flamenko i saw them on ebay and the seller has them listed as also being Sata. I followed the link to the video on that page and found the link above. Currently that shop is selling them for cheaper than what this ebay seller is offering them for.

And the sandisk 16GB reviewed.
http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3133 -
Anyone up for BitMicro's 416GB SSD??
100MB/s read and write, 2.5" SATA and IDE format. Damn, if 128GB = $4330 that's over $33/GB - so let's say there is a premium of $40/GB for the 416GB -> $16640 = pwnage.
Is this the biggest single drive SATA/IDE SSD?
If you have 3x RAID 0 would you get sustained speeds of 300MB/s or would it cap before that? Might as well get 32GB SSD since its only $500 each (~$15/GB).
http://www.dvnation.com/benchmarks.html
Dvnation has 4x 32GB and they have over 300MB/s read (sustained? I don't know how HD Tach really works). Whats with the dips in performance at 38GB and 108GB?
http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3064&p=4
The 680i seems to perform better than the ICH9R (in P35 and P965 motherboards). -
Not sure if you are aware but have you seen the pricing of DVNation (lol).
I should have some tests and information out in a week on at least 3 different drives, to include Sandisk, Samsung and Mtron to be followed by Ridata shortly after. -
I just spoke to Mtron. I will have info to follow on their SSD that currently has 100MB/s read and 80 MB/s wite in the 32Gb version. This is presently the top performing SSD.
It lists for 1500 with Dvnation but I will be able to get them at 650 US if anyone is interested...Just putting the word out.
Please pm if interested and if it is great enough, I will work it out with Mtron. -
Would that be the Mtron 32 or 64???
Dave -
32Gb... Dont shoot the messenger. I just thought it was worthy of posting as it is a significant reduction from the 1499 and it is tested as being the top performer of all presently available SSDs
-
$650 for the 64GB Mtron and I am beginning to get VERY interested. Like what can I sell on Ebay to get the scratch interested
))
Dave -
Memoright has today taken the performance crown at DVNation
http://www.dvnation.com/nand-flash-ssd.html
100/100+ speeds
I just ordered a 2.5" 64 Gig version for my e1705
I think I may have got the first one sold in the UK at 759 pounds ($1500US)
Thats a lot of money, but consider the following:
- 64 gigs is enough to live with ... 32 for me is not
- At 100 MB/S the temptation to go RAID0 is gone. I only have 1 SATA150 channel to work with
- I am going to run a whole farm of virtual servers on my dell, and I expect performance that was simply unimaginable before I got excited about SSD a couple days ago.
-
Dont be to quick to jump. First, the Memoright is untested as of yet. There are no benchmarks. I am expecting one in a few days to which I will do a review.
Secondly, the performance crown is still with the Mtron now Pro model at 120Mb read/100Mb write. One of these is also in the mail on its way to me. Benchmarks are available at Dvnation to verify.
Once both are tested, I will do a review. Its rather funny actually because both are anxious for me to test and report on the others performance.
EDIT: Sumisu...what 64Gb SSD did you buy and from where? The only 2.5" available is from Samsung and I wasnt aware that it could be purchased alone. -
Edit: The part I wanted is here: http://www.memoright.cn/en/products/ssd.htm unfortunately not not actually in the UK yet.
I've read the specs and this looks to be to be a very fast part with good maintenance algorithms. Maybe faster and probably lower power than the mtrons.
Turns out that the seller was awaiting shipment which will now be delayed, so I am getting a refund today. He's pulled the items and contacted me about the refund. Nov 30 is ship date for a lot of SSDs into UK but I don't think the 64 gig part I wanted will be here for another month or more. Maybe I'll fly to Shenzen
Anyways, I look forward to seeing your tests. My apologies about the false alarm on 64 gig availability.
As far as manufacturer goes, I am agnostic. The next samsung parts are going to be fast too. It's going to change quickly.
So anyways, as of today the best deal for a screaming ssd setup that I can actually buy is an Alienware setup for around 4K US with 128 gigs and good performance through raid0. I've seen the benchmarks I know Mtron can be much faster...
If I could do raid in my laptop I'd consider 2 mtrons now to get 64gigs but that would also be expensive. Luckily I can't fit 2 so I can't be tempted to do it.
That Alienware rig should be tempting though for anyone in the market for a new laptop who also wants SSD. Not the fastest drives but nice in raid and always upgradable when prices go down.
I would love to know if the raid setup there is on 1 SATA channel or two. Wouldn't matter for the current samsung but 2 mtrons in there would get way over 150...
As for me I'll probably just hold out until I can get a fast 64gig part for around $1500. The current samsung 64 will be available here next week for around $1000 but I'm going to do my best to wait for a faster piece... -
Well....if you raid to Mtron Mobi 3000's properly, you will probably achieve the spped you seek if not higher. As for price, watch in the next few weeks because you may be able to get them at lower prices because of something Im currently trying to develop between mtron and a reputable distributor.
Quite frankly, Im attempting to push through an idea which would inspire competition and result in huge savings on SSDs. It will be more visible here within the next few weeks.
Watch for it. -
http://www.tcmagazine.com/comments.php?shownews=17010
32GB for $650... not bad, only ~$20/GB... and pretty much the fastest consumer SSD out there! flamenko, when can you get these 32GB drives? -
At http://www.neostore.com/ you can buy the consumer 32 Gb version for 739.00.
-
I am working with Memoright, Mtron and waiting for a response from Ridata right now. I should have information on availability within a few days. I have actively persued a handshake partnership between a distributor and Mtron to get the product out at the manufacturers suggested price which is $650. I should have response and an article within two weeks.
In this, Memoright has become involved and both companies have a great deal of interest in my testing results which I will post within a few weeks. Im hoping it will cause a price war...we will see though.
My goal is to get the Mtron selling at the suggested 650 mark which is a significantt drop which may start the ball rolling with other ssd manufacturers. Although you quoted the above article, yuou will note they did not include a distributor/reseller that will let it go at that price. There is a great deal of greed in the middleman concept. -
Guess what flamenco: Prices are going to fall quickly as soon as there is a consumer-friendly part actually available.
I've heard there is a supply problem right now with 50nm memory needed to make the larger modules which will delay this a bit.
I look forward to seeing your memoright benchmarks- there should be others popping up on the web in the next week I hope you don't mind if I presume to look at them.
Not intended as a flame but I find the tone of your posts amusing for the "trust only me" attitude and the claim that you are going to personally be responsible for bringing prices down.
Middleman "greed" is not the problem this is basic economics; high demand low supply. Demand is set to grow so the only thing that will lower prices is getting product in inventory. In this case "greedy middlemen" are exactly what's needed, since these companies don't have developed distribution channels. Once there is a consumer-friendly part actually available, natural competition will drive prices down very quickly.
The best thing for Mtron/Memoright to do would be to sign an exclusive deal with Nvidia or someone to repackage it as a performance part under a known brand name. This quarter Samsung is going to sell more SSD than all the rest simply because of their deal with Dell. If these smaller companies can't be trusted to ship in volume next year then the big deals are out and they will be in big trouble, probably out of production and dependent on patents for income. -
I though I would throw this out there...it was on the local news last night (I live in Boise....home of Micron...my sister is an EE there.
http://www.micron.com/products/real_ssd/index -
The Microns have an average to low read/write ability (75/35) which they openly placed on their site. Its again availability and how and when they will make them available to the consumer.
And Sumiso: I come here for the sole purpose of helping others. I get paid nothing. In fact, I put a great deal of time here just trying to help others because, well quite frankly its a decent feeling. (I have about 15-20emails from SSD manufacturers sitting on my email as we speak) I honestly think my popularity has grown with regards to the SSD because of this. Im astonished that they are calling and writing asking to send their product to me. The site has gained immensely because much of the industry appears to be looking here for SSD information and comparisons. I have absolutely no problem at all if you want to jump in and help since you appear to be a knowledgeable person; this is how we help others.
Can I ask... who stated to you that there was a problem with 50nm memory availability which restricts the manufacturing of larger size SSDs? Im told its a worldwide problem finding a way to get any more than 64Gb crammed into a 2.5" form factor. It hasnt been done yet apparently. Also, regarding the Samsung...can you provide a link that says they will be available to the public soon? I havent been able to find it anywhere, not even in speaking to the Samsung Rep who states they serve their purpose much better selling to the notebook manufacturers for resale in systems. -
The Samsung 64 gig should be on shelves here in the UK within the next two weeks. I was going to preorder here before I learned there were much faster write speeds coming. (Still, 2 of these in Raid 0 would be a very nice setup)
You can buy one today from the US Dell website for $949.99. Dell part number 341-5582 Could be a mistake; I don't think they want to sell these separately and it's not happening on the UK store, so if you've been waiting for one place your order nowIf I had raid capability I would have gone this route but I'm still waiting for a single fast 64 gig part.
As for my comment on 50nm memory, I was saying this is delaying shipment of 64 gig parts; true at least for Memoright I've been told. Yeah, I don't expect to see 128 2.5" real soon and for me 64 is the sweet spot anyways.
P.S. to Flamenco - thanks for not taking offense at my comments. I appreciate all the information you are providing; I just think you blow your own horn a bit more than you realize. Your reply shows you are a good guy. Written words are funny; I'm not half as nasty as I sometimes come across in email
