How about a petition sent to the AMD & AMD partners? Or posting on their Facebook/tiwwiters about this litte coincidence? I think it'll help raise awareness from the community.

Maybe these companies choose Intel products more than AMD because of higher profits?

It would be really cool if AMD could aid in the push for better designs. None of the partners have released or announced anything to really get excited for, just meh. HP so far has released the most models.

How can Intel be mad? It runs Windows, it has an AMD or Intel sticker on it so consumers know what they're getting. Whatever.

It's very simple; if something not exist cannot possible to buy. While Sleekbook is real deal with AMD APU, there is chance folks going to purchase instead the more expensive GPU week Intel one. Can you imagine Intel's "face" what would happen if more manufacturer would follow HP's example? Guess it!

Intel exerts a lot of pressure over OEMs to not release more AMD notebooks.
Their strategy lays upon mobile devices mainly and if the OEMs start going to AMD then Intel is screwed. Not only that but Nvidia must also do the same.

For AMD to compete more, they would need to improve the synergy between their iGPUs and dedicated GPUs and offer incentives for OEMs to treat them fairly.

However, they need to execute consistently for the next few years to earn the trust of OEMs. They dropped the ball a lot in the last years up untill Llano's release (and Bulldozer was a disaster).

The Asus N56DP won't be released in the UK as was stated in the Asus Google+ page.

Maybe we could organize ourselves to start posting on OEMs social networking pages (Facebook, G+) asking for more AMD APUs?

Still waiting for a 13" Trinity with 35W A10, 1600x900 matte QUALITY screen, backlit keyboard, 4 USB 3.0 ports with an mSATA and SATA III internal. Why is that so hard to do!?

I dunno, AMD undercuts Intel by so much that they would likely still make more money per laptop than the Intel ones. It will really suck if all the 35W Trinity APU's only make it into 15" notebooks. Dumb. Just dumb.

which OEM would be the best to get such from?
    never hurts to ask...
once you get down to the product manager shop its a finite number of peeps to deal with

putting that PM hat on; my guess is that Dell/HP/ are just fighting to NOT have to layoff half their workforces... not time for trivialities.
the others have too many models chasing a flat, at best, market, and more competition incoming from big handsets and tablets.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E435 and E535 Ship with AMD’s Trinity

I know they're already on the list but this is a better link anyway. :)

The 14'' Thinkpad seems to be a great option, obviously not a 13,3'' screen but I believe this is the first 14'' notebook with an A10 APU. Plus it's a Thinkpad. :)

IMHO ThinkPad Edge E535 is worse than E525.
E525 have had connectivity = eSATA and ExpressCard. Even though it lacked USB 3.0, it have had great connectivity.

E535 is not Trinity E525. Doesn't have eSATA or ExpressCard. IMHO it's total failure to introduce successor to E525 that is much worser.

Considering that I am talking about the E435...
Plus, not every notebook needs to have eSata and ExpressCard.

I'm not saying that every notebook needs to have this connectivity. But we see >30 released notebook models (some configurable some not) and there is only one released laptop with eSATA and ExpressCard: ProBook 6475b. I'm not even sure about laptops with eSATA OR ExpressCard (zero laptops?).

But it's 14" and without dedicated GPU. There are some other elements like prohibitive price for "configurable model" - starts at 1147$ and with appropriate elements will be over 1300$ (1385$ exactly for A10, No Dedicated Graphics, 8GB RAM, 14" 1600x900 screen, DVD+-R drive, 500GB HDD, Webcam, Bluetooth, NO backlit Keyboard).
Very good config of dv6z-7000 (A10, Radeon 7730M, 8GB RAM, 15" 1920x1080 screen, BD-R reader drive, 640GB HDD, Webcam, Bluetooth and Backlit Keyboard) goes for 1110$.
dvz-7000 goes for less and offers more than ProBook 6475b, except for eSATA and ExpressCard ports. I would have bought this config of dv6z-7000 with those ports instantly even for 100$ more. But worse laptop for almost 300$ more? No.

And my comment also applies to E435 vs. E425.
E425 does have ExpressCard and eSATA.
    E435 doesn't have any.

    USB 3.0 doesn't replace eSATA.
ExpressCard can be replaced by ThunderBolt... but there are even less laptops with ThunderBolt (and ONLY with Intel CPU).

Thus IMHO E535 and E435 should not be successors to E525 and E425.

I was comparing the 7660G with the 7730m and I would agree that the 7730m is a better choice. On Notebookcheck.com the benches on games like Diablo 3 and Skyrim, the gains are not tremendous but they can be the difference between high and lower settings (ex: Diablo 3 on high: 26 on 7660G, and 44 on 7730m). This solution is also more stable as said previously than the 7660G + 6670m.

Also the 7730m solution will be much better on your battery because the Trinity chip will be even more efficient when it replaces its beefy graphics for a 28nm GPU. The CrossfireX solution requires the CPU + iGP + 40nm GPU to all work simultaneously and I am sure will be less efficient.

The last reason is that the 7730m has 2GB of VRAM as opposed to the 1GB of the 7670m. If you plan to buy the 1080p option the 1GB will be fine for most games but future games may require more and it's always a nice benefit to be able to run hi-res texture packs without tanking performance.

That just my two cents. =)

    Lenovo E435 Brochures 1, 2

    AMD® Radeon HD7670M for E535 <---
AMD® Radeon HD7470M for E435 <--- I hope the E435 has the option to use the 7670m! I'm pretty sure they'll share boards, the difference being the dGPU.

    E435/535 GPUs:
    AMD Radeon HD 7520G
    AMD Radeon HD 7640G
    AMD Radeon HD 7660G
    AMD Radeon HD 7470M
AMD Radeon HD 7520G + 7470M Dual Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 7640G + 7470M Dual Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7470M Dual Graphics
    AMD Radeon HD 7670M
AMD Radeon HD 7520G + 7670M Dual Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 7640G + 7670M Dual Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7670M Dual Graphics

Not every notebook needs eSATA+ExpressCard and not many do but when you imagine the ThinkPad brand, they usually do! The E425/E525 was one of the few that did in the past. AMD's new chipsets support USB3.0 natively now, which is great, but it sucks that the new E435 doesn't have eSATA+ExpressCard.

Unfortunately the ThinkPad Edge series has never been offered with anything but 1366x768. The upgrade to 1600x900 like the T420s would've been great and not costed that much more. I've even considered swapping my E425's display for a T420s HD+ display but I don't even know if the LVDS cable would work. At least Lenovo offered it in a matte finish. I've been satisfied with my low res display. If I need a bigger display area at home, I simply hook up to my 1080p hdtv via hdmi. Either way, Lenovo should be offering the upgrade.

I agree with you 100% Why couldn't Lenovo just have kept eSATA+ExpressCard during the transition to Trinity? It doesn't make sense to remove those two features. I personally use both so I am disappointed by their omissions from the new E435/E535. I have 2 eSATA external HDDs. I also have a USB3.0 ExpressCard and an eSATA ExpressCard.

What I'd like to know is how durable are the new style hinges? It appears like the lid will not be able to open a full 180 degrees like on my E425. Also, the dual-exhaust vent setup is gone too. Now its just one big vent.

I think he said 'experience'; not guess.

as to the "why would they", I can think of a couple of good product management reasons to the why.
amd I think figured they were beaten unless they pulled a couple of things off, one being the timing. to get the product out WELL in time for "back to school" buying. In that, they seem to be succeeding though we all note many deficiencies of the offerings.
If I had been their senior product mgr I would have offered significant incentives for early/fast/like-right-now release of product - profits in an otherwise profit-starved space. I would have offered other 'soft dollar' incentives as well which we may not notice - advertising, trade shows, demo unit dollars, beta units for the next iterations, collaborative marketing, etc.

does it work? frankly I am not seeing any buzzables at the moment. However, to think through other PM issues: what is the yield on the old parts vs the new? Are AMD motivated to EOL the old parts for mftg cost reasons? Do they have layoffs coming in that area? If you had to layoff a fab employee vs an ATI developer, who would you layoff?
What else [like Jaguar] is in the pipeline and where do those iteratives fit?

Their yield issues with A-series was nearly terminal - may yet prove terminal. they have nothing exciting in the enterprise/server space. what would you do?

Well, I strongly suspect that OEMs intentionally cripple AMD offerings not to off Intel. Have you guys noticed howmost AMD offerings always seem to lack something?

AMD will only be able to fight this if it consistently delivers to the OEMs in the next few years, assuming they manage to stay afloat and the gap between their offerings and Intel's doesn't widen even more.

Since ThinkPad is in SMB genre/segment it's quite stupid to transition it to Entertainment segment that doesn't need those ports. SMB does need those.

For years ThinkPads were considered as indestructible when it comes to hinges. Sadly I think this will end, since designers went into "looks". ThinkPad is Small to Medium Business Laptop for heaven sakes, not "Cool" segment! The same will apply to vents... vents look "uncool" so now we have only 50% of them... :(
However I want to be mistaken...

I don't think this is the case, G.
I think rather that what we are seeing right now are the "hurry-up" products that needed to get buzz, if it were possible, prior to mid-august seasonal sales bump. If Intel had enough influence to produce defeaturing, they'd have enough to stop the decision cold - no amd, as they did back in the bad old days. Such games are played... Not to confuse topics but this is part of the high tension rationale between Microsoft and their OEM's. MS can make/break a point or two of profits for the HP's/Dells via their licensing arrangements and its clear how passionately they hate Google [as does apple]

Back to the main topic, some light reading for the collective:
    http://support.amd.com/us/Processor_TechDocs/47414_15h_sw_opt_guide.pdf

one more infobyte that may have some bearing on the topic, from Tweaktown:
"Intel have also hinted that they expect to ship some 50-percent more Ivy Bridge CPUs in six months that it did in the same time period with Sandy Bridge.
But, there is a but here, folks. Ivy Bridge-based CPUs are much more expensive than their Sandy Bridge counterparts. According to DigiTimes, the price disparity is around $67-$100 per unit. This is a big problem for OEMs who are working on razor-thin margins on mainstream products that are the norm. If the Sandy Bridge chips do start disappearing in September, we should expect price cuts sometime this summer."

More info on Samsung Series 3 355V AMD Trinity notebooks.

These seem like some really nice notebooks. Also, according to SammyHub they have a anti-reflective display.

There's two versions for sale in Amazon.co.uk. One with an A10-4600M APU and another with an A8-4500M APU. The one with the A8 APU only costs 449 pounds.

Also there's a small user review of it in Amazon.
The 14'' Samsung Series 5 with the A10-4655 APU is already in stock at Amazon, but with the obscene price of 900$.

Thanks Guagamela, I added these to the list!

My prediction is that not many of these will sell at that price, and why would they, which will lead to an inevitable price drop. $600 for the 25W A10 and $500 for the 17W A6 would be more appropriate but there would have to be other things included like a good display and a tactile keyboard.

That looks like a great combination but I don't think that is US dollars. If these are UK notebooks, what are the chances of having one shipped to the US?

Whatever these manufacturers are smoking, I want some... right now!

I wonder why HP ships the 6z Sleekbook with 1600MHz RAM when the 17w A6 and the 25W A10 max out with 1333MHz RAM? I doubt it works at that speed and the RAM is simply downclocked. I'm speculating but It could simply be that HP had some spare 1600 RAM modules and needs to sell them one way or another?

They probably need to clear the 1600Mhz RAM that they have available and they give the left-over material to AMDs APUs.

"Out of the 27 analysts providing estimates for the second quarter, 23 made downward revisions in the last 30 days. Over the same period, 1 out of 3 analysts decreased the estimate for fiscal 2012.

The company stated that the reduced sales guidance was due to softness in China, uncertainty in Europe as well as lingering weakness in the U.S personal computer market.

Also, U.S. technology research firm Gartner Inc. announced that worldwide PC unit shipments declined 0.1% year over year to 87.5 million units in the second quarter. Shipments were also below the prior-quarter level of 89 million units.

Hence, with the Gartner report indicating sluggish PC market and AMD lowering its revenue guidance, the majority of analysts expect weak second quarter results. They remain concerned about not only the weak end demand but also expect market share losses.

They contend that the company will be limited by stiff competition from Intel Corp. ( INTC ) due to the ramp up of Ivy Bridge for PC clients and Romley for servers.

On the other hand, a handful of analysts believe that once the macro environment improves AMD will likely benefit from share gains in servers and cloud computing, and increasing content in notebooks and desktops. They expect value-priced Trinity based ultrathins to be a solid driver in the second half of 2012. "

I read about this.... they were implying in most articles that Apple has big plans. I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple cut out Intel completely but i think it's more likely that Apple is more interested in designing their own processor for Macs rather than going to AMD. I believe that Apple already makes their own processors for tablets and the iPhone with the A5 series. Could be wrong about that though.

Although the A6-4455m could be a great candidate if Apple wants to make that $799 MacBook Air I heard about a few months ago. Either way I am sure Apple will keep everyone wondering, as usual.

Mobile Ivy Bridge HD 4000 and Trinity A10 - Can they handle CS:GO on the go? by VR-Zone.com

I'm not sure this tells us much... you guys are smarter than me on these FPS duels

and see link re: Apple 'acquisition' of Bruno:

" Now for the obligatory part to Apple-focused blogs that read news like these - hiring John Bruno does not mean Apple will come with desktop chips in 2013, because it takes anywhere between 3-5 years to bring a completely new platform to market. Thus, Apple will be using Intel-AMD-NVIDIA-Qualcomm parts in foreseeable future, but the core team that brought miracles with a very tight budget is now in place. And Apple has enough R&D budget to create everything Raja, Bob, John wanted to create, but were not allowed to.

We wonder, will Carrell Killebrew, the ideological father of Eyefinity and numerous GPU architectures (both at ATI and AMD) be the next in line to be 'acquired' by Apple?"

Doesn't show much not already known. Basically just that ULV HD 4000 gets beat significantly by 7660G (which is actually a pretty unfair comparison for Intel because 35w > 17w) And that CS:GO is not demanding AT ALL and both solutions can play the game at decent setting regardless.

Would have been more interesting (and fair) to see the A6-4455m vs the ULV HD 4000... but most reviewers do not have access to this AMD APU. Something tells me that the A6 probably loses to Intel because its actually nerfed pretty hard to meet TDP requirements, which isn't to say that it does not still beat Intel on overall value and energy efficiency.
