Hi all. Bought a new Clevo-brand M57RU, 17" WUXGA Matte lappy. The screen I got was an LG (model ID LPL0000) but it was terribly grainy and "sparkly". I've asked them to replace it with a better quality one.

To help them along, can anyone with experience please suggest the best LCD model ID's in 17" WUXGA matte they have used? It would really help a lot! Anything which was smooth & comfortable to look at, even backlighting, etc. I'm assuming LG is the best brand? Strangely this LPL0000 was atrocious..

    Many thanks!

The best thing to do is to contact Clevo. They will have the best recommendations as to what screens are best in your laptop. Also, the screen may be fine, you may have installed the screen incorrectly. Check the ribbon cable.

Thanks Lil. I didn't install it, it was bought complete from a reputable reseller. Some LCDs do have this LCD Sparkle effect and some don't. General users tend not to care or haven't seen a good screen to compare with.

The "glossy" coating on most panels nowadays allows LCD makers to sell lowser quality screens because the coating compensates somewhat. Matte screens are far more revealing of issues like grain, contrast and pixel pitch.

I'm having the exact same problem, but mine is a glossy WXGA 1440x900 also the LG model LPL0000, bought the laptop from Eurocom, had to send it back because of the screen I thought was defective. I got them to change it and its a different screen this time but the same model, and still just as ugly its like a matte screen but with glossy coating on it same problem I had with the first one. I dont want a higher resolution, I want to game at native res but I need a screen without this crappy look to it. It hurts my eyes when reading.

imo lg is the brightest notebook screen buut far from the nicest anymore, the ones used on the dell 1730 suck bad. clevo and sager only use lg screens and they are all he same model. so if you send it back you will get the same in return i know i did when i sent my 570ru back for the screen the second was the same way (different serial so i know it was changed) the screen you have is actually a lp171wu3 and you can find replacements in other brands but prob not from clevo, the sharp wuxga matte i hear is really nice from a source i know that sells them
