NO YOU DON'T. See, Eric, what a mess you made![]()
only xp needs special alignment. xp aligns on 63, vista/win7 on 64. as documented in the microsoft article stated in the ocz forum.

not really, I have vista with lots of ram. a quadcore (2.4ghz) with 4gb ram and two 7200rpm disks in raid0 was much slower at starting any app than a ulv dualcore (1.2ghz) with 2gb ram with a single mtron with 100MB/s. so not the fastest ssd per se, still kicked that raid0 + much ram + superfetch installations a** easily. by much.
there's a huge difference in snappiness. the pc has 4x the clock-cycles/sec, it has 2x the ram, and was even faster in raw readwrite speed due to raid 0. the tiny mtron-setup was still much faster. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
then find out why, it boots on a half-as-fast-ssd than you have in around 30sec. it is some driver blocking your os from fast booting, or some hardware.
you should be able to boot in 25sec at least. -
I'm sorry for the interuption but I goofed up with my wifes HP6000 and I need to fix my problem before she uses it again.
It needed a new battery so I took out the old one to see what kind it was. You have to push the little switch forward to release the battery. I goofed when I put it back in and pushed the switch forward and now you can't release it. What can I do?? is there a way to take the back of the computer off so I can move the switch? Please help!!!

lilian: post an own topic about your problem. this is a thread about ssd's, which your question has nothing to do with.
-
ok I'm sorry, just you seemed to know alot about computers. I will do as you said.
-
this is SSD thread, so i think u need to go to HP forum.this is the same way that I bring my DELL to APPLE store to ask question.
-
Just thought i'd post this little jewel. (Atto results for my samsung SLC still running strong. PC was on all night and during the test was on my OS drive and had about 5-10 apps like avast, and riva tuner running in the background)

Vista aligns on 1024; you can check with diskpart!
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
ok. i never checked myself. it aligns on a high enough number for ssds, that's all that matters.
now getting a new usb stick for installing vista on my notebook again on the new ssd. samsung 1.8" ssd, 64gb, 220MB/s / 180MB/s measured so far, 200$ or so. -
where did u get the 64G ssd for 200 dollar?
-
hanron dude is an idiot period.
computer is a commodity now, million of laptops are shipped every year, even my 7 year old nephew has his own lappy dell 1520.
how can one get away from lieing about computers?
and WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM TELLING LIES ON THIS FORUM?
i dont sell my gadgets here!
last thing, in hanron's sig, he got a dell m1730 WITHOUT ageia physics,
m1730 has been on the market in the usa for one year and a half, i sold my m1730 last August on ebay.
he still cant get his configs rit.
samsung 256gb ssd is nowhere as claimed just like whats with netbooks.
marketing people always hype bad products becuz no1 but begginers fall for that. -
ronan: He will tell you that 'as I said already, I got it form eBay!'
-
The Samsung 256 GB in my Thinkpad is a fast SSD.
-
If you have a lot of RAM (I would say 3GB+) and have Vista Readyboost enabled that statement is just not really true.
-
Whoops.
-
Just played around a little with sysinternals procmon, set up to watch writes to c:\ (my intel ssd)
I found that anyone doing visual studio development will get tons of little writes to their SSD while working unless they specifically tell their visual studio web.config to use a conventional disk or a ram disk via the <compilation> tag: Here's mine, pointed to my ramdisk:
Code:compilation defaultLanguage="vb" debug="true" tempDirectory="r:\"

Isnt that the normal price? Newegg was selling 64GB samsung slc's 1.8 for 175 + shipping
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
no. i am proof. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
hahaha
. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
how relaxinh. things go on while i'm away
-
but he claims the speed is 220/200.
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes its like the 256gb mlc samsung; it uses the new controller. didn't believe they where out but one linked in some ebay auction from germany.
but i can't do a fresh install of vista right now as i lost my usb stick, and bought a new one, and he died during the first file copies. now i can't even quickformat it. there really IS cheap flash out there. i don't want such flash in my ssds any day!!
-
Oh thats interesting I haven't seen those 64GB 1.8 mlc samsungs yet. I was going to buy a 2.5 mlc samsung for my gf's notebook but she says she would rather keep her bigger hdd.
I was going to have to install vista from usb but I had an unused sata dvd/rw internal that I hooked up to my desktop. I then took an esata cable that I had laying around and attached the dvd drive to my notebook. Saved me a little money and time. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
well, normally, it's great to install from usb stick. if you have a working one.
vista installs in about 7-8min, then

OCZ released a new version of their TRIM program, it works, but my drive is already in good shape so I didn't have any big amount of performance to restore.

Intel Cutting SSD Prices April 26th
Print | Email | Font Size: A A Author: Zac O'Vadka Posted: 18 hours, 9 minutes Ago
Intel has some price cuts in the works for their solid state drives and this will make it the second time that they have dropped the price of their SSD's in just a two month window.
For the 2.5" drives, the 160GB model will drop $100 in price, bringing it down to $660 while the 80GB model will slide down $50 for $385. The X18-M 1.8" drives will receive the exact same price cuts with the 80GB model being $385 and the 160GB model being $660.
Interestingly enough, Intel is only dropping prices on MLC based drives and the SLC based drives will remain the same. Those thinking about pulling the trigger on an Intel SSD this week might just want to wait until the start of next week to save a few extra bucks. -
Educate me , what does TRIM do and mean???
-
hmm.
Well, you can get the Intel SSD for $366 off Newegg.... so does that mean the end-consumer won't see any change? Or the price is going to go down to $315... -
-
Finally, a hard drive as serious as I am
See above link.

-
oCZ did a good job on this spot, hmmm, what happen to ppl who use samsung and Intel SSD?
-
Uhh, we are all still here and watching dubiously as OCZ cleans up its rep. I think it's important to mention that I, at least, do not want OCZ to fail. Competition is good for the marketplace but the competition has to be solid. No pun intended.
Samsung and Intel (and to a lesser extent, Mtron and Momoright) have not had any 'real' competition in this space. The sooner OCZ can fix their reputation and their product, and it looks like they are on their way, the better it will be for all consumers. However, the improvement needs to be sustained and consistent.
I have the 64GB 1.8" SLC from Samsung though it isn't with me at the moment. I am waiting for the 160GB Intel X18-M to become slightly more affordable before I pull the trigger on it. $500 and I am game. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
I wait for it to be available at all....
And I like Momoright
Yeah, good luck for OCZ. to ronan_zj: nothing happens to the ones that use samsung and intels. they just continue to work, and work great.
they don't suddenly die in shock because they heard OCZ has trim
-
The price is going from $385 to $335 for the 80GB part and the 160GB is going from $760 to $660. Depending on the market, the price might be lower to actually buy then Intel's pricing. I usually noticed on a market as volatile as SSD, the price of a particular SSD comes gradually down to the price of the next price cut(even though the manufacturer never officially cut it). That's why you don't see them at $385, but $360 and such.
BTW, for the Intel SSD users, its DIPM(Device Initiated Power Management) that lowers the TDP to 150mW. Without it, it'll probably run at 2-2.5W all the time. Think about it before disabling power saving features on an SSD. The differences in performance are not big enough to be noticeable in real world usage. -
I just posted a couple pages back i have had NO performance dregradation. no need for gimmics here.
Although to be honest i may grab a vertex (or really anything with high specs than my sammy SLC or even another SLC for raid if i can find one) if they go on special for the right price.
-
I think anyone will want to have 2 if the price is right.
-
Intel is slow with dropping it's prices, I doubt it will be $500 or less til next year unfortunately. As usual, I would love to be wrong on that prediction
-
I figure that by the time the Intel gets down to $500, there will be some other serious contenders.
-
Intel's price drops are too little too late. Go OCZ!
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
at least they deliver non-mainstream devices, too. i'm talking about 1.8", of course
-
The thing is, you know you would still rather have an intel!
-
Well... maybe if money were no object... but the Vertex's get higher write seq speeds than Intel's MLC. But I guess if money were no object, I'd get the Intel SLC.
Too bad they don't have better competition for their processors. But at least the cheapest i7's are not as expensive as their SSD drives! -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
well, always budget like this: you buy an ssd instead of a new system. then, they are all cheap
i always do that, and tell it to me 10 times in a row to believe it
-
hahaha nice. but didn't you buy a new system then anyway?
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
sshhht..
yes, for being able to get sata ssds.
actually. it was, as i need always a portable system for djing. and the old one had a defect on the batteryloader (not on the battery) and i couldn't send it back, as i might need it for djing and don't get it back early enough. ergo, first i needed a replacement-system. so i got a new one with sata for a nice ssd to put in
and i repeat all of that, again, 10 times a day
i believe it. my money doesn't, but i do
-
Tony has gotten hold of the the SLC Vertex drive, here's some benchmarks for the 60GB, more probably coming from the 120GB later, as well as RAID 0 results.

Pretty good -
It's basically the same as Super Talent's LE series.
-
Claimed sequential speeds are higher, though, which is why I'm hoping he'll post CrystalDiskMark scores. Either way, OCZ will probably keep tweaking the firmware like they do. Weren't UltraDrive LE benchmarks posted in here a while back? I'll start looking and repost them.
