Is buy.com shipping only to USA or there is international shipping too?
-
Is this drive better than a Samsung 256GB from dell on XPS systems?
-
This is rebranded intel, so imho it wins in all categories except sequential write?
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
A good bit faster, but a good bit smaller.
I would MUCH rather get the 256GB Samsung for this price but i'll take the intel for that good of a deal.
By the by Buy.com is still suffering from maintainence downage
I found out why its such a good deal
http://www.buy.com/prod/kingston-80...tel-x25-m-sata-solid/q/loc/111/210995516.html
they messed up the 80 and the 160 pricing... hopefully the price stays long enough for me to snag one.
:: crosses fingers :: -
Thanks. I'll see if I can get dell to sell me the Sammy directly for around $400 since I just ordered a system from the outlet and it didn't come with one.
I still want the Kingston from buy.com, but the sites down. I could always sell it if needed, right? -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
yeah you can always sell it later. Alot of people want SSD's and "any" price break is usually snatched up quickly.
If i can get the Intel 160... i'll trade you for the Samsung 256

It's not a fault per se, but has to be changed for ssd's.
It's a simple thing. if you have a huge dark room and can put in there, and have a list at the door stating what's in there and where, then what is faster? removing something from that list, or removing it really from the dark room you never really look at?
if it's from the list, no one can find it in there anyways.
that's how all deletes work in the pc world. in ram, too. if a process gets killed, the last way it was written in ram is still the way it's there. you just remove it from the list and it's out of existance.
like you remove someone from your phonebook. the person still exists but as you can't call him/her anymore, for you, the person's gone. -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Yeah i understand (good analogy btw) but with SSD's really being the way of the future its sad to see things stay the same as the always have been when there are much better (or at least more efficient) ways to do it.
But i guess SSD's are still fringe enough that the OS doenst have to do much more than lip service to them for another 2 or so years.
gods... what is wrong with buy.com
-
My order went through for the Kingston 160GB SSDNow M Series at Buy.com using Google Checkout. It will be interesting to see if they actually ship it.
If they do, not sure if I'll keep it or try to sell it. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
problem is, you can't just change that overnight.. still it's nice to see it change in a standard way. no chaos, please. and even while ssd's don't like the way osses talk to it right now (they just add, never remove.. just when they add something somewhere where there is yet something, that thing is old and can be "deleted"), good ssd's still perform very well even in that case.
still, os' could support since years a simple "unused(start,end)" style function. and while hdd's wouldn't have a need to support it, it would've been the "correct" thing.
but the problem is, for a long time, the connection between disk and os was very low level. that's what i really hope that'll change. so that it gets more like the os is accessing a "database". there it creates, updates, reads, deletes data in, and the disk is on it's own on how to handle it. it can defragment while not used, it can remove old data while not used, it can do what ever it likes.
no need for a winfs on the os-level, then, too. and finally the first real way to have no need for defragmentations anymore, ever. it's then the disks fault. not the os's fault, not yours, noones.

I just ordered mine. We'll see if it ships.

good luck everyone

Appears they fixed the price already.
-
My page still shows the old price on buy.com
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
How did you check out? I still get the maintainence error?
Still Showing 349 even after i cleared my cookies and history just in case -
It says $675.99 on mine now.
http://www.buy.com/prod/160gb-ssd-intelx25-m-kingston-sata-2-5in/q/loc/101/210851620.html
Nevermind, that was the non-bundle. The price on the bundle was still the same price. My bad -
-
Should I order two of them and sell one of ebay?
-
Does the firmware update on the Intel X25-M work with the Kingston? Cause I just wonder if this drive will not have a fix for the speed issues.
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
If buy would ever let me actually order i would order 10 of them. They go for 500-700 online so that a good bit of quick cash.
But honestly i just want 1... why wont they sell me just one
-
Just completed checkout using Google Checkout.. will see if it buy.com will honor it..
Sadly, can't use $10 off coupon with Google Checkout though..
Will decided later if I will sell one or do RAID0 with them -
coz u didnt follow my link
-
Holy crap...I just realized it was a bundle, which includes;
Bundle Kit Contents:
SSDNow M Series drive 80GB or 160GB
USB 2.5 enclosure with accompanying USB cable
2.5" to 3.5" drive bay mounting brackets and screws
SATA data and power cable extenders
Hard drive cloning software and installation guide CD
For $349.99...Now that's a steal. Hot deal indeed.
-
The description says "SSDNow M Series drive 80GB or 160GB" Crap.....
-
Yea but 160GB is advertised in the Title Heading...all that means is that there is a 80GB bundle also.
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
well dang... so all the amazing price and they will more than likely send an 80GB drive and say the bundle said "either"
Still a good price, but no where near the AMAZING deal it would have been if it was the 160 drive.
Buy still wont let me register.
Oh well back to shopping for Samsung 256 drives i guess -
I followed your link when I bought it. However, when I went to check the price, I just did a search on their site and the nonbundle was the only 160GB drive that came up when seaching for Kingston SSD.
As for the page saying 80 or 160GB, my receipt says 160GB on it so if they send the wrong one then they're paying for it to be shipped right back. -
buy.com has very good customer service. I have to return something once, they sent me the link to print out the UPS shipping label and I just drop it off at UPS store.
-
As I was saying. Here's the 80GB version!
-
I think you don't have to register if you use Google Checkout -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Well buy is just wrong. I got to register. and ordered the 160gb bundle... then got a notice like 30 seconds later about my shopping cart was emptied because the item was no longer available.
Now i'm officially just bummed out. -
Yeah, I missed it, I was like a deer in the headlights. Just could not believe it. I wonder if they will ship ANY of the ones ordered. I thought FINALLY, a real serious manly honest to goodness PRICE BREAK. Not yet
-
got the order confirmation email from buy.com... no cancellation yet..
From buy.com order lookup
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
lucky git...
i hope it goes through for you though. Thats an awesome price -
People on hardforum.com are saying buy.com does stuff like this a lot to get people to visit the site but then cancel the orders. I'm got my order in but I doubt it will get fulfilled.
-
Item 8 in the Buy.com Terms and Conditions:
http://www.buy.com/corp/legal.asp
I hate to be the party pooper. Maybe Buy.com will let it slide
-
My credit card was charged. Bad business practice to charge accounts before knowing for sure if they're going to fulfill the order. I thought most companies don't charge til they ship the item.
It sounds like Buy.com has a history of incorrect prices and I doubt that's a coincidence. Not sure if they are just trying to a very short term interest free loan or it's only to get people onto the site in order to buy other items. -
Hi,
Has anyone loaded the new intel x-25m firmware via a usb thumb/flash drive? I dont have a CD/DVD player on my Lenovo x200. -
In physical stores, it used to be illegal to sell products that had another label on them for lesser prices under a more expensive price if the product was mislabeled - as in, the store can't reneg on a price just because it means they'll lose money for their screw-up. IF the customer brought it up to the register with one sticker, it needed to be sold under that sticker's conditions. But, I don't think this is even a possibility in online commerce because of all the caveats in online sales policy and contract agreements. Oh well guys - good luck!
-
The general rule of thumb on price mistakes is always choose overnight shipping, even if it costs you a fair bit more (As long as it doesn't make the item more expensive than other retailers). The thought is, your order gets shipped before the retailer has the chance to cancel it. That goes for all big price mistakes, whether at Amazon, Buy.com, or other places.
-
I have not try it myself but this may be of some help...
http://genetikayos.livejournal.com/43998.html
Then copy iSSDFUT.exe from within 04098820.iso (extract it with WinRAR) to the flash drive
Once you have the bootable flash drive, you can boot from it and try running iSSDFUT.exe -
My experience with Buy.com is that they suck (though I have been a customer for over ten years). They are VERY quick to cancel orders. It's dubious that any of you will get your 'pricing mistake' units.
HP, for example, has now amended their terms of service to be able to CHARGE your credit card AFTER the fact if they catch a pricing error. They can just charge the difference. Retailers are smartening up. The pricing mistake honeymoon was good while it lasted in general. We should get used to more restrictive policies like other countries. Probably get used to taxes wherever you ship too. Sooner or later, the moratorium on Internet purchase taxes will be no more.
/rant -
No way it would be legal for HP to charge extra to the credit card without at least contacting the customer first and giving the option to cancel the order or accept the additional charges. That would be like a restaurant giving you a $60 bill and then going back and charging $100 to your credit card. Not legal even if they have a paper back there saying they can do it.
-
Yep. They'll need to contact the buyer first and give them the option of returning the item for a full refund. And even then there may be some doubt as to the validity of their request for additional payment. The item in question has already changed hands at the agreed upon price. Stating later that the buyer can keep the item only if he/she sends additional funds is of questionable validity. I see a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Although widely believed, this is in most cases untrue. Some retailers will sell the item for the lesser price to keep the customer happy -- as long as the price difference isn't huge -- but they do not need to do so. There may be a few cities with local rules requiring the sale at the lower price, but it's generally not a requirement. -
My order says "processing" sent to wharehouse. I selected two day air, so hopefully they will hurry up and ship it on Monday.
-
R and D is probably already paid for on these SSD's. Time to lower the price in a serious way! Intel 160GB for 225!
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Yeah that would be nice. I gifure the 1.50-2 dollar a GB will push these drives into taking over the storage market completely. And certainly after the next storage growth where 256GB-512GB drives are much more common
But for right now 2.18 a GB for an Intel drive was INSANE... and i still cry for missing it
-
Granted, its one of the fastest drive for read, and offer decent write speed. Sure it normally costs $700, though, even at $350, its still overpriced imo.
There is seeming fixed artifical barrier on the pricing, cos atm the price for SSD seems too far, beyond the cost of production. Guess it will be better in due course, with more competition, but $350 for 160GB?
I'd rather RAID a pair of 7200.4 for $200. But then thats just me. Good luck btw on the drive, hope it ships okay. -
Have you actually used a ssd extensively (a good ssd), I just bought my first one (apex), and i don't see myself buying another tradition harddrive.
