well, there were no need for update my drive, but I did it anyway because I'm geek![]()
I didn't try to find update info for rbb drives, but, if there is for rbx...
also, tomy b, do you remember situation with your hp mini bios update![]()

Yes I don't care too about those 20GB but I still think that it will be a 320GB drive.
Technically speaking there is no reason that couldn't allow Intel to release the 320GB version immediately. If you see the 2nd generation Intel SSD opened you realize that the bottom has already the free space available to double the memory modules.
Thanks to the new 34nm memory, the Intel's are not only the best performance wise, but they push the SSD's to bigger capacities and lower prices. Let's see how the competition responds. -
Sigh.
I mention in the very first sentence of my response that battery life is nearly identical with identical usage (Run several movies from fully charged status until the system goes to sleep at 5%). You obviously skimmed through it.
Also, I can attest the ability of Samsung drives with RBX controller to have firmware update. It's just that most manufacturers don't release it. Lenovo does, and I can use this firmware update for both Lenovo-branded and Samsung-branded SLC drives. Random read and write speeds increase quite a bit after the update (about 2MB/s in CrystalDiskMark)
-
Th capability exists to make 1TB 2.5" SSDs. Indilinx, Intel, and Samsung based drives could have been released with terabyte capacities months ago, but they're not going to do it because they would be stupidly expensive, and there probably wouldn't be enough buyers to make them profitable. Nobody in particular is doing more than anyone else to push larger capacities out to the market.

I just checked NewEgg, and the price of the not-in-stock Intel 160GB G2 has gone from $449, to $499, to, wait for it, $899. Huh?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167017
The are also showing th 80GB G2 for $499. ?
When NewEgg starts jacking up the price, you know things are F'd up.
Supply and Demand. That is Capitalism at it's best. This will pass, but it is too bad that people have to suffer because of greed. -
Thanks for the link T61.
Well it seems Anand basically narrowed it down to OCZ and Intel. Let the OCZ (more specifically Indilinx) vs. Intel War begin!
Oh wait, it has started already.

Yup, it's like my 8GB upgrade... started at $699 (I got it at that price) and now it's $779... apparently VERY low supply and a perceived halfway decent demand. (The x25-m though, isn't perceived, it's actually through the roof... but $900?!... JEEZUS)
Update: here it is for $997
Newegg's officially on "supply and demand" crack -
Uh T9950 eh?
-
Looks like it's being listed at stores in Europe, not sure if they have stock or not.

those intel drives on newegg disgust me. hopefully people will have patience and not give in until the prices drop.
-
My point still stands then. Review sites likes Toms show much higher idle and load numbers on the Samsung than the Intel drive yet the Intel drive manages at least much as the Samsung. Tells how much burst numbers matter(Hint: It doesn't).
-
Yeah... ssshhh.... don't tell anyone...
-
You know, everyone deserves to make a buck, but I'd hoped these kinds of shenanigans were beneath NewEgg. I've been buying stuff from them long before anyone really knew who they were. This pretty much confirms that they sold out and now aren't different that a car dealers gouging customers for outrageous prices when a hot new model comes out.
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Wow, the Newegg thing is absolutely outrageous. And earlier I was trying to get a G2 from them too...
On the other hand, they're now selling open box G1s for a very reasonable $165. That's significantly cheaper than most used drives on eBay... -
WOW, an open box G1 160GB for 307. on the egg. Decent price.
-
Nice review of the Intel SSD 160GB with some fancy graphs. http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=825&pageid=1
-
Yes, Newegg has several open box Intel SSDs right now--even an extreme for $512.

NCIX.com doesn't do that newegg crap there price is still constant...
-
Thats easy for them since it's "not in stock"
-
Hence, my reseller was telling me the truth. The distributors are essentially playing a very dirty game in releasing stock to resellers who are willing to offer them the highest price that their customers are willing to pay. My reseller said they don't play like this as it is technically illegal, hence they are currently at the back of the Intel queue.
Well, another reason could be the NAND price shocks that we're experiencing lately. However, this doesn't explain why the distributor has the stock, but is unwilling to release it to those offering less than $600. I'm not buying fron NewEgg as I'm not in the US. -

Egg just wants to clear out the G1 stock and also take advantage of supply/demand.
Price will go down at some point. -
No they don't have them in stock. If you see the little red icon with the truck, it says "nicht lieferbar". That means "not available".
Nevertheless it is a good sign that this SSD appear on the shops. It definitely means Intel has it ready for selling so it must not be far away.
Let's hope that they don't charge more than twice the 160GB price when they start selling it. -
Guys, Crucial M225 with Indilinx controller is very cheap. 125 euros vs. 190 euros for Intel gen 2.
Is it a good buy?
Same performance as Vertex? -
That is what I bought. It is suppose to be here tomorrow... -
Anyone have any experience with the Corsair Extremes? Good, bad, ugly.....
I'm pretty sure they are just Vertex's (they use the same Indilinx Barefoot w/64MB cache and Sammy MLC, right?). -
true. but so is newegg. P)
Canadian sellers always get stock after all the US sellers so it doesn't matter, we won't see the G2 for another month likely anyway. -
Hi everyone I've been lurking here a bit well, I just found a lecture on youtube from an "Intel SSD Expert"
Its from Stanford University, Its quiet long and technical but I would think some of you would like it. I hope its not been posted before. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNlAOi1vroU&feature=channel_page The video starts about 6 minuits in for some strange reason. -
With Intel G2 so hard to get, im also thinking on Corsair or maybe the crucial drive, not much info out about the corsair though, but here a review of it,
Corsair X128 review test -
NCIX also has price matching
-
Ok, this is weird. My reseller claims that Intel has once again issued a 2nd recall on the drive and will re-release them in mid-September, which is consistent with what mos ETAs are showing.
I'm getting a bad vibe about this:
i) Intel has a new, undisclosed issue.
ii) Intel priced themselves too low for a great drive and plans to "re-release" them at higher prices. This makes sense as they face no serious competition and could afford selling the drives at a premium above OCZ and others. Of course, I hope if this is what Intel wants, then they better shoot themselves in the foot because they're not invincible.
Update: Yes, 2nd recall. No reason given, but apparently Intel has recalled all stock from Synnex, Ingram, etc. These are the 2 main distributors I usually source from. So if your order hasn't shipped, it's likely it won't for a while. -
Maybe they stopped shipping them because they are disgusted with what distributers and resellers are doing to the pricing...
-
Also, nobody should bother asking questions about any indilinx drive. they are all the same. if your vendor does not offer good firmware updates just flash vertex firmware and... VIOLA! you now have an OCZ vertex
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Believe this? SSD demand to drop? Link
-
So a Corsair X64 could get be successfully flashed with ANY vertex fw? Or is there a specific one I would need to use?
-
Well im not sure about this, but according to the review,
So if thats true, im going with 128. -
If it is new it should come with the latest FW, no need to flash anything til newer FW comes out.
-
You can check FW in device manager

-
Hopefully it will make SSD prices drop and hence remain competitive and in demand then. Either way Samsung wins since they are supplying the NAND flash...
Those numbers aren't worth anything. Real numbers and most importantly random speeds are much better indicators of performance than stated sequential speeds. -
NewEgg's reduced the price and the 160's are back in stock. (At least when I wrote this they were...)

Here's a handy way to see who's selling and who has stock in the USA:
http://www.intel.com/buy/components/ssd/embedded.htm?sSKU=SSDSA2MH160G1C5&fmlid=1
The prices are all over the place. Love to know w t f is going on... -
a second intel recall on the same product? yikes! that's low by OCZ standards...
-
Bought a 60GB Agility from ZipZoomFly.
$160-30 rebate. Sweet pricing. -
Those are the first gen.
-
Doh! How embarassing!! :confused2:
-
Man, you gotta' love the transparency of all the unethical business practices of retailers going on on the Intel website
Please don't tell me this $1,000 piece of hardware is first-gen?? -
^^^ LOL....64GB to boot.
On second thought, that's not even funny. It makes me sick!
-
All I can say is I'm really glad I bought my G1 and am now very happy with it!
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
I too would be more than happy with a G1 (160GB) Intel, however, Hitachi just introduced the 7K500 and I'm wondering if capacity is what I should settle for (for now) until the whole $997 Intel ssd business has faded from our memories?
7K500 = 7200 RPM 500GB 2.5" notebook drive with .69 Watts idle and 1.8 Watts R/W = might be too good to pass up (depending on price).
-
I am actually thinking about the Hitachi as well. I wonder how many platters it has? Could not find that info.
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Well, according to;
http://www.storagenewsletter.com/news/disk/hitachi-gst-travelstar-7k500
(see down at the very bottom)...
there should be only two (I was hoping for one!).
-
OK, I wont, but Newegg has an open box special of that SSD for $500.(limit 5 per customer)
