After lurking around the board about which thermal compound should I get, I planned to order an ICD 7. I wonder how should I remove the old stock thermal paste on CPU/GPU without leaving a scratch on the module? Should I buy Arctic Silver thermal material remover & surface purifier also?

That would be a good choice... i heard on the forum that it does better than Artic Silver 5... i doubt that u have to buy it as there is a way by which u can remove ur old thermal paste... let more experienced members answer ur question... i got no experience using this stuff..

Frankly, using isopropyl alcohol that is 90%+ in purity along with Q-Tips and coffee filters will work just as well as the Arctic Silver cleaner stuff. Having used both methods to clean TIM off heatsinks in the past, I can say that the cleaning effectiveness between the two is negligible at best.

Really, the question comes down to forking over the money for Arctic Silver's stuff, or using what you already have in your medicine cabinet at home at virtually no cost to you.
