Hi everyone!![]()
So, I've got a Gateway P-6831FX notebook. My Christmas bonus scored me a T9300 to put in it. Yay! Despite being as careful as I could be, I tore the crap out of the thermal gap pad between the heatsink and northbridge. Not so yay.
Finding a replacement has proven to be... difficult. I want to say that the pad was ~1mm thick, though I can't be sure about that. The only similar thing I can find is this:

Will this work? There's no info given about its thermal conductivity, and I honestly have no idea how hot my northbridge gets. I could really use some help!
By the way, has anyone here been in the same boat that knows just how thick a pad I need? I kinda pulled 1mm out of a hat. Thanks in advance.

That should work. Conductivity is not anything you need to know, only thing you need to know is to get something that is used for being in between there. Most likely a thermal pad.
There is usualy not much heat generated by the northbridge on notebooks anyways.
It could be thicker just to be safe, those thermal pads are not solid, so they expand to get thinner if it's too thick when used. You only need something that could conduct heat from the northbridge to the heatsink. Thermalpaste won't do it as it's liquified. -
Thanks. Good to know.
Any suggestions as to where I can get something thicker than 1mm? EK and Koolance both have thermal padding for waterblocks, but 1mm seems to be about as thick as it gets.
Thermal gap pad... anyone?
