My notebook (Clevo P650HS) came with IC Diamond paste but CPU temps have been high so I want to do a repaste. I would also like some advice on the tools required for complete maintenance, I have listed some things that I have summarized from the forums and Amazon and would like approval for them

I will be doing repastes for the CPU and GPU maybe every 9 months or so for the next 2-3 years. That means I would need around 5 repastes.

    Thermal Pastes:
I will be getting both IC Diamond and Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut. For both of these, I see several options that differ in "Carat" and quantity (gram)
    IC Diamond:
Innovation Cooling Diamond "7 Carat" Thermal Compound - 1.5 Gram:
    https://www.amazon.com/Innovation-Cooling-Diamond-Carat-Compound/dp/B0042IEVD8/

and IC Diamond 24 Carat 4.8 Gram Thermal Compound:
    https://www.amazon.com/IC-Diamond-24-Carat-Compound/dp/B0042IBAOG/

    Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut:
Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Grease Paste - 1.0 Gram:
    https://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Grizzly-Kryonaut-Grease-Paste/dp/B011F7W3LU/

and Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Grease Paste - 11.1 Grams:
    https://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Grizzly-Kryonaut-Grease-Paste/dp/B00ZJS8Q6S/

What is the difference between these two? How many respates is one SKU good for? Does the gram value indicate quantity? Do these come with cleaning and pasting tools?

    Cleaning heatsinks:
Which of these two? Is the quantity for ArctiClean sufficient for cleaning upto 5 times?
    https://www.amazon.com/ArctiClean-Thermal-Compound-Remover-Purifier/dp/B001JYQ9TM/
    https://www.amazon.com/Swan-Isopropyl-Alcohol-99-Pint/dp/B001B5JT8C/

Will this sort of cloth work with the above to remove old paste:
    https://www.amazon.com/Pack-MagicFiber-Microfiber-Cleaning-Cloths/dp/B0043XZEEC/

Canned Air for removing dust inside laptop:
Is the following good for cleaning/removing dust from inside the laptop:
    Dust-Off Disposable Compressed Gas Duster
    https://www.amazon.com/Dust-Off-Disposable-Compressed-Duster-Cans/dp/B00FZYT278/

Any idea how long this will last? (how many times can I clean dust)

    Thermal Pads:
One sheet each of 0.5mm, 1mm and 1.5mm thick Arctic Thermal Pad
    https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Thermal-Pad-0-5-Conductivity/dp/B00UYTT3I2/

    Toolkit:
    https://www.amazon.com/Professional-45-Magnetic-Precision-Screwdriver/dp/B00BNYJL5M/

    Alternatives/Additional Suggestions are welcome!

    Thanks

@bloodhawk and @Papusan and @Mr. Fox are the best people to ask when it comes to repasting
    [IMG]

I would never use Grizzly Kryonaut ever again after my bad experience with it.

IC Diamond or Liquid Ultra FTW

    Conductives are the best.

liquid ultra and conductonaut. Note they are more dangerous if you make a mistake compared to the two you listed.

@Mr. Fox pretty much narrowed it down to the Clevo heat sink lottery :p

Yes, that is a big part of it.

Kryosnaut and Liquid Ultra or Conductonaut do not work very well with sloppy fitting heat sinks. Only IC Diamond will work half decent when the fit is poor. Best to fix the sloppy fit problem, then you can use and benefit from great thermal paste.

Absolutely... they totally blow everything else out of the water.

Not very long at all. This is a waste of money. Get a small air compressor or vacuum designed for cleaning laptops/electronics. It does not take many cans of that stuff to pay for a machine that never runs out.

If you use liquid metal thermal pastes, NEVER blow compressed air into the CPU and GPU heat sink area. The end result can be an absolute disaster if it blows the liquid metal out. I know a really wonderful person this happened to and I don't want to see it happen to anyone else.

Can you give an example or recommendation of air compressor that would be suitable?

ICD is the go to for a non conductive. I just redid my laptop with it on installing a i7-3940xm. It takes a few days for the paste to spread and break in but it is well worth it.

On that note though if you have the fit and poses the Nad's, conductive TIMs are the best you will ever get.

What was your bad experience? I don't recall reading it here. I have been using it over IC Diamond lately. I like it and so far zero issues.

Well I was using LCU at first on my Clevo P870DM and it sucked not because it's bad, but blame it on the flimsy fit of the heatsink. so I solved that by using IC Diamond which is thicker a8nd my max temps @ 4.6 GHz were 88C in a stress test that is, much lower in actual gaming or usage.

I then heard a lot of good stuff about Grizzly Kryonaut so I bought a tube. It was OK at first, max temps were round 90C but within 3 days, it just started getting worse and worse reaching up to 96C.

I agree... If you are a noob at repasting and don't want to take risks, ICD is best!

ic diamond is paste for trash heatsink with large gaps due to crooked surface

if your surface is flat but don't want conductive, get gelid or kryonaut

BTW this is for a Clevo P650RS-G Laptop

@thedummy What thermal pads did you end up getting and what size fits our notebook model?
