Friends, I just started getting a thin line from the top of the display to the bottom. It shows up in BIOS, splash and windows. I tried a video driver update, (no change). IF I do a screen capture and paste in MS paint I do not see the line in the captured image.
If I hook up to an external VGA monitor there is no line on the external display. I am 1 month past my 2 year warranty. A bing search leads me to the conclusion it is a panel issue. :( Thanks for any suggestions

UPDATE this issue turned out to be a failing display panel eventually ... See http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...acement-asus-g7jh-a1-full-hd-glossy-pref.html for the "gory" details

Going to be the panel sadly :( what a bummer you didn't have the BB version as it would have been a major reason to upgrade.

External display and screenshots rule out GPU.

On the up side you can consider going for the awesome V5 matte screen for the JH which people say is outstanding.

It could possibly be the connector I suppose if you are disassembly confident which I think you are there is no harm popping in to make sure the connection is not loose.

    Many possible reasons.
At the beginning I would go to flex cable and cleaned contacts with alcohol cloth (10% possibility).
Possible that flex cable is cracked (10%).
Also it is possible that other display cables are faulty (20%).

But most likely it is either inverter board (21%) or panel issue (39%).

    What a pity.

There is also a thread on how to do a lcd panel swap in the Asus forum. I'm not sure there is a detailed video on how to disassembly the lcd panel assembly.
