    Hello,

I need to find out if my Lenovo SL300 can be upgraded to
P9600 CPU as opposed to max P8700 list on Lenovo.

Is there any SL300 user that can feedback whether the latest Bios
    will support these CPU's P8800 and/or P9600
    both 2.66G with 3 & 6m cache respectively, both 1066

I appreciate any feedback that reflects successful application of these
    processors....thanks

I have searched for three days solid with no conclusive results
    Thanks

P8xxx is definitely okay SL300, and SL300 was never made available with the P9xxx CPU, since they were both rare and expensive. P8400 and P8800 performance difference are minimal under normal usage.

P8xxx should more than enough for most people. If you need more CPU power, then you should look to upgrade the laptop with either an i5 or i7 CPU.

Hello Lead_org thanks for your reply

    Posted between forums !

Perhaps I should settle for the P8700 as it is listed and I was following the 25w versions as compared to the 35w "T" models

I was thinking, because the SL300 has now been discontinued that they are not updating the website with the NOW available P8800,P9500,P9600. It would benefit them nil to update any of these details. Maybe I should just try it.

If only someone can confirm the Bios support works or not.

I am sure I will have performance gains even from the P8700 from my current T5870

CPU specifications for SL300 from Lenovo Website

    Intel® Celeron® processor 575 (2.0 GHz), 1-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Celeron® processor 585 (2.16 GHz), 1-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Celeron® Dual Core processor T1600 (1.66 GHz), 1-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Celeron® Dual Core processor T1700 (1.83 GHz), 1-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor P7370 (2.0 GHz), 3-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor P8400 (2.26 GHz), 3-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor P8600 (2.40 GHz), 3-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor P8700 (2.53 GHz), 3-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor T5670 (1.8 GHz), 2-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor T5870 (2.0 GHz), 2-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor T6570 (2.1 GHz), 2-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor T9400 (2.53 GHz), 6-MB L2 cache
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo mobile processor T9550 (2.66 GHz), 6-MB L2 cache

I have already aquired a P9600 quite cheaply $247 (new oem inc freight) and will be looking to try it and will post results. If it doesn't work someone can pickup a bargain from me.

I was hoping someone had already tried this
    cheers

    I should have mentioned the spec for the T5870 ...P8800 + P9600

    Current processor

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5870 (2M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

    Wish list

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8800 (3M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

    .Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P9600 (6M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

    cheers
