I'm looking to upgrade to 4GB just when Windows 7 final release is out. My T61 have conservatively only 1GB of RAM (512), don't know which brand the memory is but I'm looking to max it out once Win7 is out.

I've heard 'Value RAM' from Kingston is not a recommended memory upgrade, but wonder why.
There's a deal for the KVR667D2S5/2G where I live, I do not game a lot but I'd like a perfect compatible memory, running dual modules of 2GB.

    Thanks in advance

Any 200pin DDR2 667 SO_DIMM laptop ram will work fine. Just get the one that is the cheapest and make sure it has a lifetime warranty. I am running 4GB of OCZ ram myself and it has been working great. I don't know why someone told you that the Kingston value ram was not recommended. If it matches the specs above, it should be fine.

The T61 has a maximum memory support of 3GB. (3072mb to be exact)
My T61 specs are in sig,
I have 4gb of memory installed, and it only sees 3Gb with the 64 bit operating system

Which memory brand are you using K-TRON? I see a lot of people use Crucial & OCZ Modules.

The T61 has a PM965 chipset, and there is no point in limiting the BIOS to 3GB, since the chipset itself can address upto 8GB, and the T61's motherboard is 64-bit compliant.

Even the old documentation states, that 4GB is addressable with a 64-bit OS.

For SODIMMs, brand doesn't really matter. Get a kit, which comes with a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.

I have the 4GB OCZ PC5400 kit in mine.
For some reason it only reads 3GB.
It may be because of an old Bios.
I mean the machine is a good 1.5yrs old now

I have used Kingston Value RAM and it worked just fine. :)

I believe with a 32-bit system, the OS can only use up to 3 GB RAM and with a 64-bit system it is 4GB+. Windows 7, like Vista, is supposed to come in both flavors.

No need to wait for W7. If you want to use more than 4GB+ today, you can also self-upgrade your system to 64-bit for free using the hidden WAUUPGRD folder on your T61. The process is explained here.

I just don't figure out which brand is better in terms of CL timings (I'm not an expert on this matter), but I'd like to have the memory recognized with no hiccups.

K-TRON I'm sure the T61 accepts fully the 4GB on a 64-bit OS. Anyways I plan on getting 4GB (2x2GB) to achieve dual channel performance.

I have the same memory as K-TRON in my T61p and have no "hiccups" at all in either Linux or Vista Business x64(I am dual booting).

    I have 4GB ... but due to my 32bit XP I see 3GB.

update your bios and everything should be fine.

I use G.Skill 4-4-4-12 (2x2GB) 667MHz modules as they work a bit faster than the 5-5-5-15 modules. And yes I could see the small diference when displaying JPG files for instances.

Thanks for the replies, I would go either with G Skill or OCZ, seems Crucial sticks are also good. It's been a while since I replaced a RAM module on my aged T30, a single 512MB PC2100 stick. New DDR2 sticks are ridiculously cheap, can't wait to max out my T61 RAM + a 7200rpm monster disk for when I migrate to Windows 7.

T61 is very easy to install memory on.
Flip the machine over, and you only have to remove 4 or 5 screws, to get the lower palmrest off. Than its simply the process of swapping memory cards.

    Good luck,

    K-TRON

I'd like to know if there's an online store that accepts credit card orders issued by banks outside the US.
I found out Newegg doesn't accept this since I'm from Mexico. So since I decided that apart from the memory I'd like to order a 320GB WD Scorpio Black at once.

    Suggestions.

You should be able to write them a international money order, or a check?

The only problem is that it takes like 2 weeks to clear before you get anything shipped.

You can always find a trustworthy guy in the usa to buy it for you, and than they will ship the products to you in Mexico.

I don't know anybody on the US, perhaps someone here on the forums could help me out. Sending them a check from mexican postal service would be delayed more than 7-days (which is Newegg max time allowed to receive the payment) and Paypal is also not an option because my account does not have a confirmed US address (although it is confirmed)

I dont need the items shipped to Mexico, just if someone could help me out buying those 2 items at Newegg and then redirect them to my Laredo postal office that would be great!

Kingston value RAM is not at all bad and should be considered if the price is right.
