I want POSSIBLY to upgrade a thinkpad X60's cpu from Intel Core Duo T2400 1.8GHz to Intel Core 2 Duo T7200. I don't have the computer yet.
I think the socket and bus speed is ok. My main concern is that is the cpu
soldered/glued to the mobo? I know some models of thinkpad using low voltage CPU have this kind of "permanent" connection to the mobo. Is this true as well for non-low voltage CPU (i.e. X60 with T2400 cpu)? How does one check?![]()
And if I just change the processor, upgrade BOTH the RAM and the hard drive, would Bill Gate II (Ballmer) asked me to activate again?![]()
Thanks.

I was under the impression that all Thinkpad X-series models have soldered-on CPUs, even the standard-voltage models, but I may be mistaken.

That's what i vaguely remember. Why did they do that?..sigh...
Can anyone verify MidnightSun's statement? LOL -
and changing processor and RAM wont make Bill Gates coming at you. I swear

Looks soldered to me. -

I'm really, really sure that the X-series has a BGA processor (regular or CULV) which is soldered to the MoBo. When you get the notebook, run CPU-Z and get the socket ID. If it says anything about BGA then it's soldered. BGA stands for "ball grid array" and most if not all thin & lights are made that way.

Upon searching it up, I found this thread on the Lenovo Community forum. Seems to indicate all X-series Thinkpads have soldered-on CPUs. Although CPUz does report PGA for some X60s with T-series processors, it seems to be an error on the software's part.
