I'm thinking of buying a Thinkpad r61, and think it would be cheaper to buy memory somewhere else and upgrade myself than upgrade directly from Levono. So if I choose lowest choice of "1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM) ", will I be able to just buy another 1GB PC2-5300 and plug in to upgrade to 2GB? Will there be compatibility issue?

Another question is with the 800Mhz FSB CPU, can I upgrade to pc2-6400 (800mhz), and suppose to get better performance?

    Thanks

Yes you will, but you might want to buy a 2GB SODIMM. More is always better 3GB! And no you can not make use of PC2-6400!

Thanks for the advice. For my second question, I didn't mean to mix 2 type of memories. Even if I pull off the pc2-5300 and replace with pc2-6400, it won't work?

If you pull out the PC5300 and replace it with a PC6400, it WILL work; the PC6400, however, will only run at 667MHz, not 800MHz.
