I know someone who made their Laptop into a PC because of the same reasons. What He did was acquire a mini-fridge and put 3 wires under the insulated seam on the hinge side of the door(power cord, HDMI cable, and USB multiplier) He propped up the machine on its side (so it could fit, it was an M17x r1 btw). You can also use the fridge for whatever you have room left for.

Unfortunately no, the M17x has since been replaced, still has the fridge though. Not much modding needed, just a regular small fridge, with wires stuck under the weather stripping... Heres an image I found online of what I mean by the insulated seam/weather stripping:

    550px-Replace-a-Refrigerator-Door-Seal-Step-3.jpg

If you plan on doing it (with a fridge like this), just unscrew the weatherstripping, find a place least in the way and pass the wires through with duct tape (he used inside hinge area not the door, you don't what the wires to move when you open and shut), then rescrew the stripping back (I think he had to cut away some of the stripping with a razor so it would close properly) and there you go.

1.) the added heat pipes would help if you could add them. Remember they are sealed units so you can't cut them! Essentially you should have to contract a company to make them for you and the cost would be better just to buy a proper system.
2.) if you could find a way to attach and power that monster it would work too................

The existing heatpipe may be bad. See if you can buy a replacement heatpipe before going through all that crap with a fridge and everything. And make sure you clean the CPU and GPU thoroughly before applying the new paste. The main reasons your temperatures would be so high:

    1. Bad paste or paste job
    2. Misaligned heatsink
    3. Broken heatsink/heatpipe
    4. Dirty heatsink fins
    5. Dirty/Dead fan
    6. Obstruction of airflow

Verify each of these and correct it. Otherwise if that doesn't help then you may have to cut your losses and buy a new machine. A system with a GT 740m or faster will beat the performance of the 5870 GPU you have.

If it were bad you need to get another. These are sealed units with a liquid that turns to vapor under heat and as cooled back to liquid and wicked back to the heat pad. Since thought the prior CPU was not overheating it should be ok unless you somehow damaged it...............
