Hej, I am planning to buy on ebay an 3920xm, the prices of QS are way lower, does that mean QS have way higher chance of failing, or could they be better then OEM?Whats advantage of having an OEM over QS, but the resale value?
Thanks in advance!!!!

QS are Qualification Samples, usually shipped out to retailers for display models. They are much better than ES (Engineering Samples), less issues, generally more stable. OEM are "retail" chips sold to OEMs like Dell, HP, Lenovo to be used in laptops, and retail chips are sold directly to retailers...$$$

Yeah I figured that out, just wondering if QS would be less stable then OEM's, or maybe not as resistant, maybe any1 has experience with this?

QS are like OEM for practical purposes. I would try to avoid ES on the other hand. According to my experience with a i7 2720QM which i tried to install in vain on a Dell Precision M4600, engineering samples are not as reliable as QS and OEM. Also performance may be a bit lower. -
Cheers, will buy the QS

I think it all depends on which chip you get. THe chances of getting a dud exist when purchasing either ES or QS. My ES 920xm is capable of performing just as well as any OEM chip and lucky for me at unusually low tdp/tdc requirements allowing for high maintained OCing.
So yes there is a slightly higher risk in getting an ES but also a QS over the OEM. Don't think that QS are more reliable than ES both sell cheaper for the reason that they are basically the same. Get whichever is cheaper. When did you last hear someone have a faulty intel cpu...pre dual core era methinks -
Between the QC22 and the QC7R, which one is made with the highest quality?
Thoughts on 3920xm QS
