    To buy OCZ SSD or Crucial or... Bike?

    Have some money and thinking to spend them.

    either SSD:
    - Solid 3 60 GB
    - Agility 3 60 GB
    - Crucial M4 64 GB

    or cheap mountain bike :)

    Anyone has benchmarks of Crucial? I already know that Solid sucks against Vertex but is it noticeable in boot time against Crucial or Agility?

    I would advise you to stay away from OCZ SSDs until SandForce gets their act together.

    Don't touch anything Sandforce. Especially OCZ.

    Crucial M4 in real-world usage performs nearly identical to the Vertex 3 anyway. The small differences are not noticeable unless you stand there with a stopwatch to catch the .5s difference in 4 minute operations...

    My M4 boots very fast on my laptop and I have a fair bit running on startup too. Like that memory hog known as Steam...

    Crucial, Intel, Samsung are your brands to look at. The Intel 510 tends to run a bit too high in cost, and Samsung only has a SATA 2 out at the moment, but it is a good one. They have a SATA 3 coming out in Octoberish.

    Right now, the best price/performance/reliability drive is probably the M4. Extremely fast, decently priced (for an SSD) and one of the most reliable brands (with Intel and Samsung).

    So either the M4 or the mountain bike I guess :D More real-world fun with bike I'm thinking.

    Already searching bike :)

    BTW I already looked at reviews of M4 but people say that it is slower than OCZ and has not goos speed after trim and iops low level. Not mention that it has only 95 MB/sec stated write speed. I wish I knew it has fast 4K reads...

    Bike.

    Will keep your shoulders/wrists/arms/fingers in shape (for hours at a time on your computer - to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome).

    I have 2 OCZs running in my Sager NP8130. They have never let me down, they run fast and smooth. I have a Vertex 3 60 GB as the boot drive and an Agility 2 240 Gb for data files. I only keep files that I am currently working with on the data drive, all other data is stored on network drives. Remember OCZ has been a leader and will continue to be.

    'Has' has never been a reliable indicator of 'will continue to be' - especially when they currently are not the reliability leaders in any sense of that notion, nor have they been for quite some time.

    OCZ usually comes out as the least reliable brand. For example on Newegg or the poll we had here last week.

    For last 2 days I have already changed my mind for.... MANY times.
    Ohhhh. I wrote a message to one Inet shop about Crucial and I told them that I am thinking to buy SSD but I am more like to buy OCZ from their competitor because of very good prise. But if they willl... well I gues you already guessed what next I wrote to them. In my country only if it is specially written smth like this "The cheapest prise! If you found cheaper tell us and buy for less!" you can negotiate with respective shops. But we will see soon.

    Phil as you are super moderator can you add a Poll here? Like what to buy? :)

    I decided that I am not so rich to buy smth cheap. So my choice is Crucial M4 64GB.

    I suppose that CrystalDiskMark uses uncompressible data so OCZ drives are so slow, right? However I don't care about slow write speed of Crucial. It is only 64GB so... Why will I need fast write speeds? Crucial will be fine.

    Read speeds are indeed more important, and random 4k reads at that, for an OS drive. They are all really in the same range in that regard, you just have to see if you want to roll the dice with OCZ or get something historically far more reliable in Crucial.

    Buy the bike. Biking is excellent exercise, and gives a decent break from computers. If not, get the M4
