    Dears,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5871. It has a T2390 Processor. This processor is 1.86 Ghz and has 1 Mb Cache and 533 Mhz bus Speed.
The mother board is GL960 which has a 533 Mhz speed as well.
The question is, in case I want to put the T7500 CPU, which has a 4Mb cache and 800 Mhz buss spead, will that work?
If yes, will I feel the difference or it doesn't worth?
If not, Which processor will you advise me to use instead?

    BR,
    Wassim

It may work, there are some threads about that in this forum.
I will try to find the links for you.

Also I suggest getting a penryn instead of a merom. The penryn will be much cooler.

I'm sorry, but I don't think that T7500 will work, due to the chipset only having a 533Mhz bus.

Hmm, that's surprising. Give it a try, it may JUST work.

    Dears,

Thank you alot for your fast reply and support.
    However, I'm still confused.
I'm still worrying about the FSB speed difference weather 533, 667 or 800 Mhz.
Where do you think the bottle neck will be relocated in the machine?
Now my rating is 2.9. If I change to T7500 or T8100 or others, do you think that it will improve a lot my machine???

If I format my machine and go back and install Win XP SP3, will that be a better choice?

    10x.

My guess is that your HDD would be the bottle neck.

    Yes, installing xp will help.
How much ram do you have?

    Oooooooops :D

I downloaded from Intel website a software that detects the chipset of my machine. I got PM965. Back to Intel, this express chipset has FSB speed of 800 Mhz.

So I think that I might be lucky and I can install any of the 800 Mhz core 2 duo processors.
Also I can replace my Hard drive to a faster rotation one.

Processor + hard will cost 300 $ in my country.
If i want to axchange my laptop to any a505 or l505... then I will pay at least 700 $.
So it worth trying. Am I right?

The $300 vs. $700 cost is not the only thing I would consider.

How well do you rate your chance of successfully doing this CPU upgrade?

How much do you love/hate your keyboard, pointing stick/touchpad and screen?

How much (and how quickly) can you sell your current system?

For the $700 system you're mentioning, is it the same basic platform as what you're currently using (P vs. T CPU's, same/better chipset, better/same video card, etc), or are there other benefits that the new notebook might offer (such as a better keyboard, pointing stick/touchpad and/or LCD screen)?

Once you've carefully (and truthfully) considered all of the above, then you'll know what your best course of action is.

Using myself as an example, I would easily pay the $700 for a new notebook - I would even pay double, if my specific requirements could not be met with the $700 'base' system - but that just shows you how chicken I am of messing around with a notebook's CPU (and the tearing down of almost every single piece/screw to get to it). ;)

    Good luck!

    Hi guys,

Now I have windows 7 running on my laptop. I want to try the xp on my machine before go for hardware upgrade.

I have an external 80Gb hard drive. I intalled the win xp sp3 on it and tried to boot my PC from that disk.
I entered the bios an made the boot sequence my external hard the first.
The machine turned on and I got the xp start page as usual and then I got a stop "blue screen" telling me there is an error and cannot continue.
The question is: is it possible to run my laptop completly from my external drive using XP and from my main hard using windows 7? How can I make my external hard drive bootable?

    BR,
    Wassim
