    Hi,

I'm thinking of swapping out the 16" screen from my Toshiba A660 (i7-740QM / GT -330M / 4GB DDR3) to a higher resolution screen however I was just wondering if it will work?

I know for a fact that the GT330M supports higher resolutions but the screen lacks the support for it (only 1366x768). For a 16" screen the default resolution is a bit small and hence the reason why I plan on swapping it out.

Any thoughts? Should I even attempt it?

It may be possible if you can find a compatible higher resolution 16" screen, but as the A660 series does not have a model with a higher resolution screen, finding one may be quite difficult, and you may be reduced to expensive trial and error. 16" screens in the first place are a bit of a non-standard screen size, which makes your job even more difficult.

I have found one on ebay for $90 (30% off for 2 days) - however it's for an ASUS

Hey guys just want to let you know that I bought the 16" Full HD (1080p) display and installed it on my new notebook.

At first I was afraid the notebooks motherboard won't support it (e.g HP DV6), however I can happilly say that it works. I'm very happy with it, however the default colour/brightness were a bit off than the original display (nothing that the control panel can't fix though). :)

    I've attached some pics.

    Thanks for keeping us updated.

I'm very impressed with this upgrade you accomplished (I know I wouldn't attempt it myself).

I'm sure you've given others here hope in upgrading their resolutions too.

    Cheers!

Damn, that's an impressive upgrade. To be honest, I can't believe you pulled it off, I was expecting them to have two different connectors, and other compatibility problems.

Awesome job on that. $90 for a 1080p screen . . . I can't think of a better upgrade. Not that I would recommend someone go out and do this (it does void your warranty), but it is cool nonetheless. The base 1366x768 resolution screen is just so limiting.

I know Sony has a 1080p screen for my model. At some point I'll probably upgrade to that =p
