    I have a P100 with a T2400 core-duo I want to change to a T7600 core2duo.

I am looking for a link to a manual or other instructions on how to do this.

I also will appreciate any feedback on the value of doing this. CPU costs $625

I use my NB at work but like to play games, Oblivion Gothic3 Far-Cry ect. when I have free time.

    Thank You

    ps: this forum is GREAT!!!

I would suggest that you do not upgrade to the T7600, but if a T7200. That processor is the best price to performance ratio, and it won't perform too much more slowly than the T7600. If you are not performing complex processor dependant tasks on your computer, or are not upgrading to Windows Viasta, then I recommend against a processor upgrade. 64-bit, which is what some of the Vista packages will use, will only be worth it when 64-bit applications come out, and that will be a while.

Also, performance in games will not improve with a processor upgrade. The limiting factor in gaming is almost always the graphics card. Your current T2400 is still a very powerful processor, and it will last a long time yet. I am thinking an upgrade to some other component like the hard disk will be better.

As mentioned, there is no point--either put the money in the bank for a new computer or use some of it to get a faster hard drive.

As has been said above the performance benefit would not be worth it for the amount of hassle you would have to go through to do it. Your T2400 is still a very quick cpu.

Thanks To all of you for your advice! I am going to take it and save my money.

I could be wrong but don't think a 7200rpm HD is worth the difference it would make in games.

I don't want anything to do with Vista. I hate the way anti-virus and others just do their thing when they want to.

Have a 8800GTX in my box at home and don't like the way it regulates it's speed.

The 7900GTX in this NB is stunning in Far Cry and Oblivion, but Gothic3 has some weird issues so I thought the processor change would make a big difference.

    Thank You All once again!

The hard drive only affects loading times, not in-game performance. In-game performance is determined by the CPU, GPU, RAM, and sound card.
