What do I need to do to get a Toshiba HD-DVD player pulled from a Toshiba laptop to work in my Gateway FX, it installed and seems to work except the HD-DVD, device manager identifies the player correctly, but wont play a HD-DVD movie.

Should it be a Toshiba driver, I found one mentioned on the Gateway site (the XL version of this laptop has HD-DVD) but can not find it on their site for download.

Call Gateway, you might be locked out without XL serial number?

Thats exactly the problem. I'll check Toshiba harder this HD-DVD player was installed in different makes so should be a general driver, it might be a software problem though.

What are you using to play the HD-DVDs?

Most players aren't recognized as players until PowerDVD Ultra is used, even when adding the LG combo drive on this laptop after having the Xbox360 drive, I needed to refresh my install to get access.

You can manually grab the drivers to recognize the disk structure and content, but to play them you need the player software.

Yeah if he has the install disks he should be OK and just load PowerDVD OEM 2CH (or some ship with Win DVD?). I got OEM2CH with the LG drive, but since I already had Ultra full version, I didn't check what it requires (Device ID check, etc) in order to install. If all it does is look for the Dvice ID it should be fine, but if it checks other components he may need either to hack the software or get the full version. I would check the AVS or AfterDawn forums for help at that point.

I'am going to name it Gatenstein or FrankenFX. Yeah I had a Toshiba SLi1 with a HD-DVD player and a lot of those had problems playing HD movies , just trying to remember the fixes.

I'am pretty sure you are right, when I installed the player windows installed the drivers, and everything works except the HD movie playback. I have Cyberlink Powerdvd installed but not the HD-DVD ware they offer and see the HD-DVD ware mentioned on Gateways site but nowhere to download it. I'll check PowerDVD I know a few SLi1 owners used this to get their players to work. I altered the upper and lower filters on my Toshiba SLi1 to get the HD to work properly. Thanks for the help guys. I just need to set my Hitachi 200gb 7200rpm HDD's in to RAID 0 and get this player to play HD movies and the monster will be ALIVE!!! Any name suggestions will be appreciated. :)
