I have an X205 that I'm upgrading the T7100 in to a T9300. PC Wizard tells me that my socket type is a P478 in the X205.
I wanted to upgrade the T5500 in my P105 to the T7100 that I'll have out of the X205 and PC Wizard says the socket is a 479 MPGA. I googled these two sockets and from what I can find they are indeed the same socket and so the upgrade should be possible but I would like some confirmation.
Thanks

T7100 is a Socket P, T5500 is a Socket M. Not compatible. T5550 would be socket P, I believe.

Oh well, was worth a shot, maybe I can sell the 7100.
Thanks. -
The software will always tell you that the socket is 478 or 479.
That really doesnt help you though.
However, we do know that the toshiba x205 has a socket P processor, basically the T7(oddnumber)xx and T8(oddnumber)xx and T9(oddnumber)xx. Their are more processors which will work, but the list is pretty long.
The T5500 you have is a socket M processor, so it will not work with your motherboard. The processor will not physically fit into the socket of your laptop.
Before upgrading your X205 to a T9300, make sure that you upgrade your bios.
A lot of people forget to do this, and wonder why it does not work. Then they have to put the old cpu back in and upgrade the bios.
Also make sure to use good thermal compound, cause the chip will run a bit hotter.
Also check out the undervolting guide, so you can get the most power and efficiency out of your processor without sacrificing performance

K-Tron, thanks for the info..........I have already downloaded the 64bit BIOS from the Toshiba website and planned on flashing it after I installed the new 64bit Vista that I ordered and the new hard drives. I ordered the silver stuff someone on here recommended as well.
