I bought this laptop 3 weeks ago and the past two days i have charged it fully then unplugged it, put it to sleep and left it overnight and when i came back to it in the morning the laptop was completely drained. I just spoke to some bloke from argos who told me thats normal but i didnt think it was so wanted to check with some guys who know what they are talking about. Should i take it back or is it meant to be like this?

    Cheers.

It's normal for the battery to drain while the laptop is suspended. Sleep power draw obviously depends on the specs of your laptop, etc. Sometimes software glitches can also contribute to excessive power draw during suspend.

If you have relatively high sleep power draw and a relatively small battery, I can definitely see it discharging fully overnight...

I don't really know what that is but my laptop is new so the spec should be fairly high and the battery should last 5.15 hours. I don't leave any programmes running when i close my laptop lid and my old laptop never seemed to run out of charge while asleep...

It might not be sleeping all night. If something is causing it to wake (scheduled program, cat bumping the mouse), then it will drain the battery. You can check the event log to see when it went to sleep and what woke it. Also, I just saw Time tracking software "PC On/Off Time" shows working time on pc which shows when the computer was on, off or sleeping for the last three weeks. If it was awake during the night, you can then check the event log at those times to see why.
