    Hi,

I have recently (about an hour ago) bought the above laptop. Can anyone tell me what they think of it? My main concern is the processor, its a intel celeron T3000. Is it any good? How does this laptop compare with L500 19z, in terms of processor speed. the 19z has a core duo, does that mean it's twice as fast? Sorry i'm not too familiar with computers.

    Thanks

    Jay

In 2010, I would not recommend a single core CPU (like the celeron you have) to anyone that wants to use/enjoy the computer for any length of time.

Not only does the Celeron use more power (no SpeedStep technology) and therefore give you less battery life, it also confines you to doing one thing at a time with your computer, like back in 2005!

Is this an issue? Well, if you're even running an AntiVirus program (I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials) and one other program, you are 'multi-tasking' by definition.

Don't base your evaluation of the computer with what you are doing with it now. Base it on how much more horsepower you can get for the same amount of money. Even an Acer Timeline 1810tz will outperform the Celeron that you have, and, it will do it for up to 10 hours on battery too (for about $500).

Unless you bought the computer for less than $300, I would recommend returning it and rethinking your decision and possibly even asking for advice on the 'What should I buy' sub-forums here.

Don't want to bring you down, but if it is only an hour old, hopefully, you should be able to return it with no restocking charges.

    Good luck.

T3000 is a dual core CPU firstly... secondly ur new Laptop isn't way better... it most probably has slightly faster dual core... and same graphics card... get a way better model with dedicated graphics and quad core CPU...

    sean473,

Thanks for correcting me on the dual core aspect of this Celeron! Never even knew Celerons were made with two cores.

jay0008, sorry to mislead, definitely not intentional. We both learned something here today. ;)

    Cheers!

Some Celerons are, some Celerons aren't.

well celerons used to be single core untill 1-2 months ago when laptops with T3000 started to come out... i myself didn't know untill i saw tv adverts where they sell these cheap laptops in UK Supermarkets.... there's no proper place to buy laptops other than online... anyways, tiller , i didn't mean to offend u when i corrected u ... just saw my post... it was little offensive. I apologise if u were offended.

    sean473,

No apology necessary! No offense taken. I was just pleasantly surprised to see the Celeron's 'grow up'.
