Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite U205 s5057 Intel core 2 T5500 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM
I want to upgrade the RAM memory and I'm not sure what would give the best performances, 4GB or 2GB?
I know that 4GB is probably better than 2GB, but I wanted to know if there is a really big difference.
Does it worth the investment of upgrading to 4GB?
By the way, I have Vista
Thanks,

Unless you have 64-bit Vista then I would suggest 3GB (or maybe 2.5GB if you have 2 x 513MB at the moment). 32-bit Vista can use a little over 3GB but Vista likes as much RAM as it can find.
An asymmetric RAM configuration would not have a significant effect on performance. See this thread.

Thanks for the reply,
I have only 2 sockets for memory and now both of them in use with the 512MB memory.
Can I use on of the 512MB and buy another one of 2GB and put them togther?
Thanks -
Yes you can, you can purchase one 2gb memory card for your laptop, and use one of the current 512mb memory cards, to have a total of 2.5Gb of memory.
Make sure you buy the correct memory.
You are looking for PC5300 ddr2 sodimm memory.
You can pretty much buy any brand of memory, just make sure it has a lifetime warranty.

Sorry for bothering... but what does the pc5300 mean?
Because someone told me I need pc4200 memory. -
Well PC5300 is the speed of the memory. PC5300 runs at 667Mhz, and Pc4200 runs at 533Mhz.
I would run CPU-Z and go into the memory and SPD tab, and see what memory your system uses. If it uses pc4200 get pc4200 memory, if it uses 5300 get pc5300 memory.

I ran the CPU-Z, it says that I have "pc2-4300(266MHz)"
Than what memory card should I buy? (2GB - what speed?)
Thanks -
PC4200/4300 which is 533Mhz make sure SODIMM. In US should cost under $20. Check out RAM Deals on this site or NewEgg.

Well here is pretty much the only thing newegg has in stock for 2gb PC4200 memory cards:

I would personally get the Pc5300, because it will clock down to PC4200 speeds in your laptop, and it will save you a few $$$.
