    Hello.
I want to upgrade the RAM from 512 MB to 1 GB. Thing is - the guy from the store told me Toshibas often don't work with any regular memory and I should order something certified by Toshiba.
Now, I figure any serious brand PC 4300 will do (like Corsair, Kingston, GeIL). What do you think?

Any PC2-4300 RAM will do. Kingston, Crucial, Corsair and OCZ are all reputable.

Samsung is a major supplier of memories to all sort of companies.
You can always go with any kind of memory, though they say it's safer to have exactly the same kind of modules, for you it means Samsung, i think corsair and GeiL both take their memory modules from Samsung.
But it's better not to buy a performance class memory and stick with the same numbers (the latencies), because they might be crippled by the first module.

Of course I have heard that some OCZ Ram's tend to be returned more than they should.

Can anyone confirm this? In this case I'm gonna go for Corsair/GeIL. And, of course, I presume the timmings should match, right? (My RAM has 4-3-3-8)

Timing, CAS Latency and voltages need to match -
Cannot confirm that Geil/Corsair come off same prod line - Promote OCZ have sold many many Desktop / Notebooks dimms and none have failed or needed RMA - Have heard some things about Geil though - not much about Cosair -
