So I was having troubles with the laptop not seeing the touchpad in device manager, but after flashing with the newest BIOS, it comes up, saying its connected by ps/2. Only problem is, it still doesnt work, and I can't find an ALPS touchpad driver that works for it.

    It's a Toshiba Satellite M70-sr200e with an ATI x200m.

After clicking on "View Hidden Devices" it comes up as Alps Pointing device, with a yellow exclamation mark next to it.

"This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)"

Any advice on what to do?

If you can easily get to it, then yes. If it doesn't make a difference the touchpad could very well be dying (as odd as that sounds).

Well it was working before I did a clean reformat of XP Pro SP3.. so I don't think that's the case.

What do you mean you can't find a driver for it?

Go to the toshiba site and download the installer.

The driver opens up, you click next to proceed with the installation and then nothing happens?

Is there a possibility the ribbon got damaged? I didn't notice it when pulling the laptop apart and you have to push the plastic down so it gets locked so..?

So you're saying it was fine prior to you taking it apart.

No, I don't think you damaged it.
You probably didn't seat it properly before snapping the lock down.

I've closed the two plastic things on both sides when putting the ribbon in to hold it in place but still no luck

You still have to have metal to metal contact. The contacts on the ribbon have to make contact with the metal in the snap connector.

You may have disconnected something else or missed something during reassembly.

If it does shows up in device manager, try uninstalling the device and then use toshiba's driver.

I've tried reading a disassembly guide and putting the touchpad ribbon back in but it still doesn't do anything, is it possible for connectors to get damaged?
