I love my toshiba satellite, it's as tough as a nickle steak but the power supply (part no. PA-3290U-1ACA) seems to be as fragile as a snowflake! I'm on my second one (which I've been extremely careful with) and now its on the blink.

symptom: battery quits charging, computer shuts down and the power supply emits a barley audible beep when plugged in.

What I have found is that I can plug the pwr supply in and, while holding it close to my ear, push and move around the cord at the power supply end until the beeping quits. I'm talking about the detachable cord that plugs into the wall outlet and into the power supply. This seems to indicate to me that power inlet side of the power supply is the fragile problem area. I know this is a temporary and iffy fix but from reading numerous postings related to this problem a lot of people come away thinking this problem is due to a faulty motherboard or other computer hardware failure.

I suggest to always unplug the cord from the body of the power supply before stowing in your computer bag and be very careful not to drop or knock your power supply around.

Interesting find. It does not make any differences using different (wall) power sockets?

    cheers ...
