    Well guys,
I'm getting this laptop but i have one question
First, i live in europe so u probbably don't know this laptop
    That's the config.
    15,4" WXGA 12800x800
    Intel T7100 1.8Ghz 2MB L2
    Ati HD2600 512MB
    2GB ram
    160GB @5400 HDD

It costs around 1300$ with 4year guarantee

My question is now, will the T7100 hold back the laptop? i want it for the uni but for playing games too, although I'm not very demanding...
I wanted a laptop with a T7300 cpu but they all cost quite a bit more.
Should I go for it or get a laptop with a better processor?
    Thank you very much

The T7100 has got decent performance and, under most situations, you would need a stopwatch to measure the improvement offered by the T7300. The GPU will be the controlling factor for games with 3D graphics.

    Thank u very much,
I just saw a new Asus laptop that came out (F3SA), exact same specs as the Toshiba except the cpu. It has a T7500 and 2 years warranty instead of 4.
It costs about 100$ more but I'm concerned about the quality, are asus laptops in general good? not anything like acer I hope...

Either would be good. You don't need the T7500 but for $100 not a bad price. John said it is the GPU that limits gaming and that is correct. And on that note office apps will not push a PIII.

In general, Asus have a good reputation for quality. Battery life has been a concern with some models. There are a couple of reviews of the F3 series here.

But 4 years warranty is better, even if its a new thinkpad t61p or a 8510w without any warranty

Having owned both a couple toshibas and an Asus, I would go with the Asus. Both have rock steady performance, not a problem with anything. To me, it seems that the Asus just has a better quality build.

I'd take the Toshiba. Yes I am biased but a 4 year warranty is fantastic, and while Asus' are often more sturdy Toshibas don't exactly have a rep for breaking easily.

thanks, I have one more question now. It's a little noobish but I have to ask.
I read somewhere in this forum that a better processor than the T7100 would be more powerfull in applications like video encoding. Can anyone explain me what this stuff is? because the asus now costs around 200$ more and I don't know if it's worth only for the T7500. I'm really concerned though that the T7100 will be slow and I'll be hitting my head against the wall :p

If you use video encoding then you really should buy a faster processor. And if you want a cheaper price then just get a Toshiba. Yeah Asus has good quality all in all the Toshiba is very good as well. Just buy the Toshiba.
