    Hello all,
Quite the nice board you have here. I have been browsing around for awhile and couldn't find a specific answer.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 with the fans located on the bottom.
In the past I had a heat issue, the laptop would heat up and shut down.
I dislodged the clump of crud blocking the cooling system but maybe too late.

The machine will boot into the Bios and I have attempted to boot to HD and to CD but it's a no-go. The display is fine, I can see all the Bios screens.
Upon the attempted boots, the fan spins as it should then I only get the backlit screen after it displays F2 for bios, etc.

    So, in short...
    Get to bios fine.
Won't boot to CD or hard drive.
Will not display any other screen, just the VERY faint light of the screen itself.

I'm pretty sure I cooked something, but what?

    Thanks folks.....

2003-era Toshibas, like yours, are prone to heat problems. I've got an A25 myself. If it won't boot to either CD or HDD, I'd suspect mobo. If the screen is very faint, the inverter is probably bad too.

Thank you for the reply. I guess I can use everything except the mobo to build a new one. The CPU is a 2.3, still fast enough for what I need. 80G HD too.
I'm thinking I read that the bare bones notebooks have nothing except the case and mobo. So I should have the rest....

If its got no warranty, you might want to consider opening it up. The Satellite series have P4s if I remember, and they're as hot as a nuclear reactor core.

Yup, they're P4s. The proc is pretty easy to access, at least in mine. Screw off a compartment, and unscrew the heatsink.

Yep, got the P4 in it. I can get it out no problem.
I haven't figured out how to get the HD out though. I have looked on various sites (including Toshiba) and cannot find diagrams for my laptop.

How the heck do I remove the HD????

oh! i think you have the model where the hdd is located underneath the optical drive. pull that and im pretty sure you'll find your harddrive.

my sister has a Toshiba with a celeron from that era, and it has heat issues also. another guy I know has a newer one (~a year old) with a P4 and it also just shuts itself off from heat. Also burned his desk.

I checked and the HD doesn't appear to be under the optical.
As it is sitting on your lap, it appears to be on the right, furthest from you (rear), under the net card and memory. Can't figure how to get it out.
Anybody seen any schematics for this model?

Burned his desk? That isn't even funny. He needs to clean it, do a thermal upgrade, and buy a notebook cooler if it's doing that.

I took one apart over the summer... Had to replace the mobo... I would have sworn it was under the optical drive. Hmm. Guess I forget.
