The left mousebutton below the touchpad on my 2.5 year old Asus M60J fell off. This button have always felt wrong to use, pretty hard to press down, and the latest 6 months its been pretty loose. Today it fell off.
The underside of the button have 4 plastic hooks, each on its own corner. They have been melted on to the notebook to attach from what I can gather. All 4 hooks have fallen off lol.
I use this notebook for work so its kinda crucial, but I can always use the built in press sensor on the touchpad I guess.
My warranty is 2 year so no help there. What can I do to fix this problem?

Perhaps a new palm rest?

If I hated my touchpad that much, I'd probably just stick to using an external mouse

Nobody who knows?
Too bad that these people only have touchpad for Dell notebooks but MAN, look at all that freaking work to replace the buttons loool. Guess I`m screwed.

Thanks for bringing this topic up, Cloudfire. The same button on my HP is very loose and I don't know how much longer it's going to last. I was starting to do some research when I came across your thread.
I'll research and experiment with what I can, but my new clevo p170em system is coming soon and I may lose most (probably all) of my interest in the HP. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Alot of manufacturers integrate the touchpad/buttons into the palmrest, some manufacturers have certain models have it where it is replaceable. You would probably want to open up the laptop and see if it is replaceable or just have to replace the palmrest. The biggest issue is finding parts for ASUS as they aren't exactly as established in the PC market as other manufacturers, and don't really have a way to look up parts.

Unfortunately I don't see palm rest / top cover in that list, so it's best to contact them first. -
I have looked and I cannot replace just the buttons since the hooks underneath is attached to the touchpad. The hooks are melted on, not screwed on like in the Dell video.
I can`t find touchpad for this model anywhere.
Thanks KLF, will send them a message and ask if they have any touchpads in stock for this model. If they don`t I think I will have to resort to super glue
I don`t need this notebook anyways for much longer like you misterhobbs, its just that I can probably sell this notebook for $400 easily and I can lose this money if I don`t fix the problem -
If you take the laptop apart there's probably a part number for the palmrest or whatever part those buttons belong to. Usually palmrest but sometimes touchpad. That's why you need to take it apart, to know what spare part you actually need
Touchpad button fell off
