    Hello everyone,

Ive come here for some advice. At the moment ive got an acer 5672 with the following specs:

    CD 1,66Ghz, 1GB Ram, x1600 128mb, 120GB HD, 15,4" WXGA, Vista Home premium

The problem is the thing is too large (more like 17" with 15" screen) and short battery life. I also want a something more durable than an acer, so thinkpad is the logical choice. Dont game much anymore so dont care about the downgrade.

In the local market I notice that this is worth a little bit more (IMO) than a T40 thinkpad. With the following specs approx. :

    Pentium M 1.6Ghz, 512mb ram, ati 7500 32mb, 40GB HD, 14.1" XGA, XP Pro

I was curious around how much of a performance hit this will be (for normal tasks like internet, word, films), and if i'll still be able to play WC3?

    Is this a reasonable trade?

Any other thoughts would also be much appreciated!

Well, If you're just using internet, word and such the performance hit wont be that bad. CD is only really useful for doing a lot of stuff at the same time, and for applications which can use it.

I have a T43 P-M 1.6GHz and it is just fine for watching movies and browsing. I would however put another 512MB-1GB the one availbale to you. That will certainly make the slowdown much less noticeable, even if your running XP.

Well, it also fulfills the WC3 min specs, and I think that it will be able to do a decent job of running it at 1024x768, which is the resolution of that 14.1" screen if i'm not mistaking

Well, luckily I bought a single 2GB DDR2 533MHz stick for my acer. I won't be including that in the sale, so technically i should have around 2,25GB ram, if the motherboard takes it. For the rest are you happy with your T43? Hows the weight/bulkiness?

I do understand I'll go down in raw power, but i dont really need it anymore...
What i want is a smaller laptop, and one that will have a longer physical lifetime.

Im just curious if monetary-wise its a good trade? And according to my description if its a good trade

I'd go for the Thinkpad simply because I think pretty much all Acers are junk. The laptop will be fine for basic tasks, though I'm not sure about various games because I don't play PC games often.

I think people consider the T40 the last great thinkpad if that's worth anything to you.
