Hi. Newbie to the site and novice to the technical aspects of computer. I"m about to purchase a new Dell e1705 and need to transfer all my personal documents from my existing desktop (music, pics, Word/Excel files). What's the best way for me to transfer all of this over to my Notebook?

    Thanks in advance.

The easiest is to make a backup copy of all the files you need and copy them unto an external HDD using USB.

You can then retrieve your backup unto your new Dell. Hope this helps.

Othewise - there is software you can purchase that allow to transfer from pc to pc via usb. It's pretty slick too and easy. Check out CNET.com for reviews on the best software available. Also - depending on how big and how much - just use a USB Flash Drive to transfer and occasional file or so...
