My UX303LN has a US backlit keyboard. I wanted to replace it with a UK keyboard, so no big deal.

Just ordered a UK replacement and realised however it has no backlit (scratches head)?

Is it possible to peel or remove the backlit from the US keyboard and put it on the replacement? Never done this sort of thing and would like to know if it's possible or worth my time?

You can try but it doesn't sound like an easy task. The membrane is probably held down with strong tape and trying to remove it may end up with some damage somewhere. That's not to mention the trouble you're gonna have just trying to get to the membrane (this goes for the new keyboard that you want to transfer the LEDs to). Another thing to consider is the keys on the non-backlit model. They may not be traced to work with a backlight. I'd return it and get the right one.

Don't bother. Sure to break something and very likely won't work anyhow. Backlight keyboard should have two connectors, one for keyboard and one for backlight. What is on back of your keyboard? As kosti suggested, I would return and get the proper one.

I contacted the seller and he told me it's no problem to swap them over, however as you guys have suggested I may return it, I was hoping it'd be a simple few screws or something, haven't opened the laptop to see yet.

On the UX303, the entire top faceplate has to be replaced for the keyboard. It's all sonic welded and permanently secured to the laptop keyboard palmrest.

Oh god this is bad news, are you sure about that? I wanted to replace my keyboard with a UK one..

Why would ASUS sell these keyboards separate if that was the case?

I had the opposite situation. I got a UX303LN from German Amazon and wanted a US keyboard, but had to swap the whole thing. See the images here:

Is it possible that it comes complete w/palmrest by default?

I would email asusparts.eu though. They carry a large stock of legit Asus parts. Ask them if there's a UK backlit keyboard for UX303. I believe all UX303 keyboards are interchangeable.

I believe I had to transplant it from a broken UX303 that I bought.

Oh so it is possible to transplant a keyboard to the palm rest? Or is it just not worth the hassle?

I can't remember what I did, lol. I know you can't move the keyboard, but I think you can transplant the touchpad. The keyboard is literally used to that panel so no way to remove it. If yours doesn't come with a touchpad, I believe it's possible.
