I need a new hard drive in my MBP. I want a fast 500gb one, so my current options are the 7200.4 Seagate 500gb, the 500gb Scorpio blue, and maybe a few other ones than I don't know of, or the yet-to-be-released Hitachi 7k500.
Does anyone know when the Hitachi will be released? This month maybe?
Do you guys think it's worth the wait? Speed is obviously a high priority for me, and I need 500gb.
Thanks for your opinions

Initial benchmarks seem to indicate that it would be worth getting if performance is an issue and SSDs are out of the budget...
-
My own Seagate has been an excellent drive.

Where have there been any benchmarks? Do you have a link?

Wow if the benchmarks are correct I will hold off on geeting thr hitachi 5k500.b. I was about to post if I should wait. According to the benchmarks it should be worth the wait.
Does anyone know when the etailers will have them? -

Without hard evidence these are my estimates for real life general performance of 9.5mm drives:
1. Hitachi 7K500
2. WD3200BEKT
3. WD6400BEVT
4. WD5000BEVT
5. Seagate 7200.4 -

oh sorry about that....I really want to re-install vista on np9262, but I rather wait for the new 7k500 to do this. Since I'm down to 15 gigs.

All the real world benchmarks I've seen online show the WD3200BEKT is faster. -
Any new news on the release date on the hitachi?
