Why is it that the LCD screen on my e1705 flickers? It's not the standard flickering that comes from low refresh rates but, regardless of what program I'm in or even if I'm just at the desktop, all of a sudden the screen will shift, black rectangles, almost like the artifacts you see in overclocked video cards, appear. This shifted state stays for less than .1 second but its annoying.

Is this indicative of a failing LCD screen? What should I do? Any troubleshooting advice? The computer is still fully functioning, it doesn't overheat, its not being shaken or anything.

If you need more info, lemme know!

    Thanks
    -Chris

Two things come to mind. First, I would start by re-installing the video drivers check Dell's website for the latest drivers. Finally, its possible that the cable from the video card to the panel is crimped or damaged.

On the outside chance it could be video card related, but I don't think so.

    Good luck!

yes. stock clocks still show the artifacts. ironically, when I'm in a game, the jittery things don't show up. it only happens when windows are visible on the screen. When firefox is up...when the virus scan goes....and....if I close all the windows...it still happens.

    anything else?

I'll try a reformat when I get home on break.

I would suggest that you try to connect an external monitor on your notebook to check if the external monitor has the same problems or not.

If you are still experiencing problem on the external display, it would probably point the problem to the video card. If no problem with external monitor, then it could be the cable or the notebook LCD panel driver board.

I had similar issues last year on my Voodoo Notebook and it was the plug on the motherboard that was loose. Glitches (Static lines)would appear on dark background.

    best of luck
