Ok first things first I'm pretty new to the laptop seen an I'm looking to upgrade my ram. I've found that I need a type of ram called PC2-5300. I was curious however if a type called PC-5400 would work for my laptop or not. The reason I am asking is because I have found some good deals on the PC-5400 and would like to buy it if it will work.

My laptop is an acer aspire 5520.

    Thanks for any help.

As the previous user said it's pretty much the same. Here's an explanation.

I see. Well I'm learning more and more everyday I also wanted to make sure I was buying the right stuff.

I'm hoping that this upgrade will help my games run a little bit better as I have a feeling the graphics card is using up some of the memory causing the computer to run slower.

I also had one other quick question is it really to important to upgrade both ram cards to 2gb for a total of 4gb of ram? Or would I be ok to have one 1gb ram and one 2 gb ram? Just curious. I don't want to spend more then I need to if it's not going to make any difference.

1GB+2GB will be fine. Your asking about "Dual Channel an yes you will get most of the benifit from it running 3GB. The 1st 2GB will run in true Dual Channel.

Great thanks for the help. I happened to see a few things about how vista uses / sees the memory and didn't really want to spend the extra money for unused memory unless it was totally necessary.

Thanks again for all the help.
