I have a Gateway MX6214 with an intel 940gml chipset and a 1.6 ghz celeron m 420, 533 mhz FS speed 1MB L2 cache and 32 bit intst. set. and socket PPGA 478. Here is the info on the processor i bought, Intel Core Duo Mobile Processor T2080
    Frequency: 1.73 GHz
    FSB: 533 MHz
    Cache: 1 MB
    Process: 65 nm
    Socket: Socket 478
From the hundreds of posts and forums ive read and been too this processor should be working, i have tried many of Gateways different BIOS for their other laptops that were just about exactly the same! Can anyone tell me what i may be doing wrong?? Is it still a matter of a bios that supports a core duo that im missing and if so anyone know any other laptops that might use the same bios that i could download somewhere?? Im desperate because my processor is dying i believe after 4 years but i have upgraded alot on this machine plus i just really like it! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank You!

You need to expand on this. Does it not start up at all with the new processor installed? And what do you mean by saying that your old processor is dieing?

CPUs rarely fail. Does the Celeron still work? You've upgraded to the latest BIOS? The best thing to do if you can is to try to test the CPU in another machine to see if it's damaged/defective.

940GML isn't supposed support dual-core processors. In some very rare cases I think people may have gotten it to work, but unless you've seen evidence that your particular laptop works with a T2050, I'm going to say you're most likely out of luck.

the 940GML doesn't support dual core CPUs. Your best upgrade options are the Celeron M450 and the Core Solo T1350.
