I didn't buy the option for 1 GB of Turbo Memory that comes with the X61 Tablet. Can I buy it, and install it myself even though I didn't order the X61 that had the option?

You can, but you dont want to ;)

I actually had the module in at first. However it was just useless in terms of performance gain and it had issues with the southbridge drivers. If you want more performance just get more RAM. The only reason to get the turbo memory is to use it as a built in flash storage.

I'm topped out at 4 GB of RAM though. People claim that they've seen improvements even with 4 GB.

Alternatively, can I just buy a flash USB to plug in, and that would serve the same purpose?

You can try it but I doubt you will see a difference. If you've streamlined your Vista, 4GB of memory usually performs better than with Turbo Memory since it's far faster.
