HP compaq makes many laptops with turion prcessors currently so I'd assume they'll have some with Turon X2s soon after it somes out.

MSI showed several prototypes a while ago (MSI MS-1042 IIRC), but no one will no until the actual processor comes out. I'm expecting HP, Fujitsu, Acer, and MSI to produce models, but you can't be sure.

I wish the core duo was a 64 bit...then I would have no problem with deciding what to get

Probably any company that has any AMD processors in its laptops will use Turion X2s when it comes out, just like every company with Intel processors in its laptops jumped on the Core duo bandwagon.

There'd still be a problem then cheesecake, it'd be AMD vs. Intel all over again.

Yeah that sounds about right. I just wonder what the price will be to upgrade to the X2 as compared to upgrading to a core duo

There woudln't be that much of a problem for me because I have never owned a AMD processor and I would probably just stick with intel. Easier that way. If I decide to build another desktop...I would definately go with AMD

My guess is cheaper, unless you're talking about AMD's high end FX series and such, AMD's processors are generally cheaper than intels for comparable performance.

AMDs are definitely better in desktops, no questions asked there, but you pay a premium for it.

I'm really an AMD fan so my opinion may be biased but waiting for turion X2s would be your best bet in my opinion. 64-bit capabilities along with multi-threaded goodness in one small portable and not horribly power-hungry package.

It won't be much longer 'til they're out, and my bet is they'll beat the Core Duos in everything except maybe battery life, AMD's products tend to eat up more power than Intel's.

I believe there was a thread stating that turion x2 processors would be available in May, so figure maybe June for decent availability for purchase.

as far as desktops go Intel should be at least competitive once Conroe is available. No doubt that AMD owns the market right now though.

I'd hope so, really it better be if it wants to compete with AMD.

i thought merom was their 64bit core duo or dual core mobile name for intel.

im personally waiting for the turion 64 x2. was looking into getting a athlon 64 x2 4400 laptop, but then i hear this, and wooo! suspose to be similar performance for much less wattage, and should be able to make laptops not weigh 12 lbs for it... lol

I'd probably never buy a 12 lb. laptop, I love my battery life too much...

I HAVE to have at least 2 hours.

thats why i didnt buy a sager 9750 right away, i was hoping something new would be out soon with similar gaming performance and 64bit/dual core. 5720 was almost it, but it wasnt 64bit or dual core =/. I feel if your buying now thats a necessity unless u like wasting money.

The 5720 will be Dual Core soon enough, but still no 64-Bit, I hope some gaming PCs will come out with the Turion X2s.
