So I've (almost) found a good notebook for me. The price is nice and all but the CPU is a turion 56.

How good is this CPU? I've seen one benchmark but it showed it to be below the T2040. This is kinda bad for me =/

Does anyone have a Turion X2 that can tell me more about it?

Also, my dad's laptop has an Athlon X2 TK-53. How does it compare to it?

My dad's laptop seems weak to me. It is noticeably slower than my desktop (Sempron 3100+, 1GB DDR400 RAM, the laptop has 1GB DDR2 533) in internet browsing and stuff, but the UC in the task manager is almost always 50%+ for BOTH core so I suspect a Dell's sucky windows XP installation

I have a 52 1.6Ghz, it seems fast to me. Compared to TK-53 faster clock 1.73Ghz vs 1.8Ghz and TL has twice the L2. 50% CPU usage? Somthing is running mine is 3% 10% when surfing. TL's 52 and above are clock for clock slightly faster than core duos MIPS/MFLOPS. So if T2040 is Pentium dual than what you heard is wrong.

An Athlon x2 slower than a Sempron? That just doesn't seem right to me.

Yeah it does not seem right to me too but when I go into config panel-> system, it shows "Athlon X2 TK-53 796mhz"

I'm pretty sure this is the baterry saving thingy, but vista underclocks my Sempron to 800mhz too when not needed(saw it on CPU-z), but the config panel still says 1801mhz, not 801 mhz.

I haven't been able to see game benchmarks though, but I know intel has always had the advance on desktop operatiopns (video encoding and such). I truly believe the Turion is better in gaming though since it is were AMD has the advange.

Anyway, do you know your 3DMark06 score on a TL52? (Not overall, CPU test only).

The Turion 56 I'm looking at is running at 1.8ghz and the TL-56 specs I saw were 1.6 2x256KB cache. Is this a "new" generation of Turion with 2x512KB cache or?

The AMD Turion X2, TL-56 is a mid range CPU that can be found in many laptops around the $700-$1000 range. It performs admirably for basic tasks, and for most users, the difference between it and higher level CPU's (TL-6x, or T7x00) is minimal. However, if you do CPU intensive tasks, there then it is recommended to get a higher end processor.

Would it still be a great increase over my desktop Sempron 3100+?

Yes, simply because it's a dual core, so you have 2 processors working.

Not only that, it's also faster. The TX2 is just a desktop version of the Athlon X2, which is definitely more powerful than the Sempron line.

Definitely, TL-56 is a duo core and i think its fast enough,, the performance doesnt fall behind much when compared to Intel Core 2 Duo T5470, but C2D has better battery savings

As long as it will last 2-3 years (the GFX is a HD2600 GDDR3) I'm okay.

I'm living with the sempron and a desktop 8600GT right now.

You mean last as in not blow up, or last as in still be powerful enough?

Definitely will last that long in terms of life, but depending on what you do with your computer will determine whether or not it will be up to par.

For basic computing it will be more than enough 3 years down the road. But if you're a hardcore gamer and computer user, then it will be tough to keep up with cpus in 3 years.

I don't really care about graphics anyway (well, even if it's at the minimum in 3 years, it will look ******* amazing)
