I just recently bought my first laptop, an Acer Aspire 5520 (with Turion X2 TL 58 at 1.9 GHz), what would be the Equivalent interms of the Core 2 Duo and Core Duo.
Moreover, The laptop also has the 8400M G (128 Dedicated) and about 800MB Turbo Cache, Graphics card. I know it is a weak card, however, when compared to the integrated solutions like the GMA X3100, where does it stand?

(The Comparsion is interms of performance not battery life)

    In Short
Turion X2 TL 58 = Core 2 Duo XXX = Core Duo XXX (not taking into account the 64bit capabilities)
    8400M G = GMA xxx (X3100 or GMA 950)
    Thank You

    An AMD TL-58 1.9GHz, would be equivalent to between a Intel C2D T7100 1.8 or a T7250 2.0.
Pretty much same for same cpu clock
The 8400M would be probably like 3-5 times better than the GMA X3100

A 1.4-1.5Ghz core 2 duo would probably be the same speed as your 1.9ghz turion.

Based on benchmarks I've seen, the TL-59 is comparable to a 1.5-1.6 GHz C2D (T5250 is 1.5GHz). The 8400GS is no powerhouse, but it murders the x3100.

Don't bother with C2D equivalent, Turion X2 TL-58 is quite fast, just add more RAM and you could enjoy it.

Being a laptop reseller we have 22 different models here all either Turion x2 or core 2 duo based. I can tell you for a fact from my expert experiance that the tk-58 is around 1.4ghz Core2Duo and even then I would without question go with the 1.4ghz core2duo as its more power efficent.

We have compared side by side and examined CPU usage under various apps and the conclusion was very clear. Turion TK-58 = 1.4ghz core2duo and even then 1.4ghz core2duo was faster in many apps.

We tested MANY different model laptops as well.

Performance superiority of Core2Duo over turion X2 cpus is simply shocking. AMD is in some serious trouble in the laptop segment. Thier platform refresh coming soon STILL is going to use the same core architecture as they simply dont have anything else to offer the laptop segment.

Core2Duo and the new c2d based "Pentium Dual Cores" simply out class and are far superior to anything AMD has. Intel has already switched the budget "Pentium Dual Core" cpu to Core2Duo architecture and because of this AMD has simply become inferior to even the budget laptop segment as far as price/performance.

and as far as x3100 vs 8400gs....the 8400gs is currently about 3 times as fast. Once intel releases better drivers it will fall to just twice as fast.

I dont know where allan haung got his info from but its 100% wrong and it seems clear he was just guessing.

Aren't their various versions of the Core 2 Duo based on the FSB, like the T7xx, T5xx, etc,.

    Does that make a difference,...?

I was kind of worried because my friends laptop handles Fifa 06 well compared to mine. He has 1GB Ram, GMA930, Core Duo T2450 (2.00 Ghz) where as I have 2GB Ram, 8400M G (128MB), TL 59 X2 (1.9 GHz).

I know that his processor is better than mine, but keeping in mind that the game doesn't only depend on the processor speed, I believe that the game should run better on my laptop. But it doesn't, sometimes i gets slow. I want to know why?

Your laptop should run games much better as you have the 8400gs videocard. As far as why its not it could be many things and we can play the 1,000,000 question game and still not come up with an answer as we dont have the laptop in front of us.

OH ok thats a different story then. Now I can see why you have such poor performance. The 8400m G is a crippled GPU with a laughable 8 streaming processors and your friends integrated gma950 graphics are actually faster as his core2duo renders software T&L faster than your GPU.

Very easy to see the problem....

Rofl, I think you have sunk to the lowest point possible. Now you're saying that the gma950 is better at gaming than the nvidia 8400G just because it's paired with a core 2 vs a turion.

Your knowledge is quite laughable, you're pure BS.

In short, the GMA 950 is better than the 8400m G interms of performance,...
and ofcourse the X3100 would be even better.

    Correct?

Please don't listen to anything Onion says.

The 8400G, even when paired with a Turion will completely blow away the x3100, which will blow away the gma950. It's not even close.

Thank you, I thought so as well. (8400M G though crippled, but still decdicated card, with 128MB Dedicated VRAM)
Any idea where the TL 58 (1.9Ghz) stand in term of performance when compared with the Core Duo.

The 1.9GHz TL is on par with a 1.5-1.6GHz Core 2 duo in most categories.

But anyway, gaming is very dependent on gpu power, with the cpu playing a small factor in it. So it doesn't matter what cpu you get, they will all do the same when paired with the same card.

YES, With 8 streaming processor the nvidia 8400g is CRIPPLED and software T&L rendering IS faster because of this. You obviously DONT have this hardware so plase dont comment about it. Also note that it does NOT have 128mb but 64mb with crippled 64bit memory. The other 64mb is alloctaed in system RAM. This is called "Turbo cache" setup.

This is the EXACT same situation with the x3100 graphics as it has 8 processors as well and in software T&L mode its FASTER in many games.

As a notebook review website its SHOCKING how much misinformation there is here. Alot of misinformation is coming from people who dont even own the hardware and are simply guessing and posting what they "feel" would be correct. Its a big problem on this website.

Its clear you guys dont own any of these laptops with Turion and core 2 duo CPUs. We have 22 laptops here that we resell all turion x2 and core 2 duo. I know what Im talking about as we have the hardware inhand. The "ultamite" cpu chart you posted is laughably incorrect and simply created by someone who "made it up" himself without doing any testing.

Keep it up. Hopefully next time it'll be longer than two days.

A Go 6150 is faster than a GMA 950. A Radeon x1100 is faster than the GMA 950. Dare call Chaz's list laughably incorrect?
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568

When you talk about processors, sometimes, I gotta give it to you, you make some sense of coherency. So, stick with processors, and your 22 laptops.

BTW, just for kicks, where do you work?

As far as IGPs? YES! You know whats funny....he didnt even post ONE 3d benchmark. :err: What kind of chart/list is that if you dont even show becnhmarks? Useless IMO. Hes does have alot of correct info on there but some of it is clearly fabricated.

    3Dmark2001se:
    GMA950 : over 6500
    go 6150 : 4000 at most
    radeon X1100 : 5000

Numbers dont lie my friends....laptops with 2.0ghz and above core2duos score over 7000 with the gma950....

    A few things:

    1. For current day performance, you're going to measure with the most recent benchmark. I'm pretty sure any of those video cards could handle Windows ME and the games of that era just fine.

    2. I'm ashamed of myself that I was force to pull notebookcheck numbers, which in any other time, any one of us would condemn to be inaccurate.

    3. There is no doubt, no way in hell that a GMA 950 is going to come close to touching a 8400m G.

That's true. For example, the go5700 scores 2700 in 3dMark03 (vs the 1200 of the xpress1150), but it scores lower in 3dMark05 (500 vs 633)

OMG now I know for a fact you guys dont own any of this hardware.

    1. Notebook check is the most INACCURATE website on the internet. Anyone here will tell you that.
    2. The 3dmark2006 scores for the 8400m are for the 8400m GS not the G. The GS with its DOUBLE 16 stream processors can barely scroe 1100. The information on that website is 100% flaud.
    3. Mobile 6150s score less than 200 in 3dmark2006. Desktop versions dont even score 220.
    4. GMA950 scores alittle over 220 in 3dmark2006.

There is NO way a 8400m G will score 1100 in 3dmark2006 NO way.

Ive played games on the GMA950, go 6150, x1100 and the GMA950 runs games more smoothly. Simple as that. This is reality I have delt with not googling flaud numbers you find on google...as I said before we have the hardware here while you guys are obviously looking up flaud figures on inaccurate websites.

So you're wrong. Man that must not sit right with you does it, you just can't be wrong can you?
