    Hey,

I just got a HP Dv9500t and downgraded to XP. I bought the tv tuner with this machine, but it turns out the remote is O/S Dependant (Media center) and the tv tuner isn't compatible with the media center alternatives i want to use.

I'm going to return this POS, but i'd still like a good Tv Tuner. I heard a lot of people on this forum like the OnAIR GT card by Autumn Wave, but I'm not sure of the capabilities of this card. What are the inputs/outputs? HD up to 1080p?

I'd also like the know which card out there has minimal lag time. I'd like to hook up my 360 to this laptop.

My budget is about $200 for this, so probably nothing with a hardware encoder on it!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi someone1,

This is Ryan Pertusio from AutumnWave. The OnAir GT is great for Digital TV (HDTV) and Analog TV over-the-air or cable. (Over-the-Air and Cable TV can be displayed in 1920x1080.)

However, to connect it to the GT, you'd have to connect it to the Analog inputs. (Your Xbox 360 game would be up to 720x480 resolution.) Certainly still playable, but a 'real' HDTV (or LCD) would look better than going through the OnAir GT.

The 'lag' time is sometimes caused by hardware encoders. The lag is minimal on the GT. (We even sell another product called the 'OnAir Creator' which turns off the encoder for 'Game Mode'. This product probably won't interest you, if it requires a wall outlet. Still the same Analog input limitations.)

I hope I have described thoroughly what the OnAir GT can and cannot do. I'd be happy to address any other questions or concerns.

Wow Thanks! That's pretty much exactly what I wanted to know about the device. I have yet to find any USB-only (power and connectors) or Express cards that will allow full HD inputs, so i guess i'm going to wait on a TV tuner and just get a HD LCD. Maybe you guys are working on a next-gen TV Tuner with full HD support? (hdmi in/out??) that'd be really nice :)

    Thanks again!

I'm more than happy to help!

It's unlikely you'll see HDMI input for a couple of reasons. A big issue is price. ($15,000 per year + per unit fees + 1/2 year certification process) The other issue is of 'legal' nature. Allowing consumers to easily record premium/protected HD streams to the PC is just asking for lawsuits.
