    Hi
I own a Gateway MX3101 that has been upgraded to an intel core duo T2500, and a Gateway ML3108 that I only manage to upgrade to an amd turion MK36 (I'm still stuggling to get the tution x2 TL50 to work).

Both laptops are almost identical. Even the motherboards have the same design and the same layout. the cpu cooling assembly in both systems is the same. The only different between the two is one uses an ATi chipset while the other used an nVidia chipset.

My question is: Why the Fan starts spinning with the core duo at below 40 degrees but not until about 55-60 degrees with the MK36?

I used AS5 in both machines, and the temperature monitoring was read using RMclock

Different BIOS, different settings for the fan.

That make sense. But why do Core Duos need to run cooler?

Intel and AMD are not identical or not even close to similar, mate :)

And I doubt that TL-50 would work, since a guy (about a month ago) was having a similar problem and the error code shown for his TL-52 (which he had upgraded to) was similar to yours, which refers to the incompatibility of the CPU with the motherboard or the BIOS....Because different versions of a notebook in the same family, necessarily do not have the same motherboard (settings)..!!

angad1608 any link to the upgrade you're talking about.

and by the way you can't upgrade from a Pentium M to a Core Duo.
