    Hello,

I have a 4gb stick that came with my T430 and I was wondering if it's okay to just buy another 4gb stick of different brand?
    Will there be compatibility issues?
And also, what's a blue screen?

    thank you!

It wouldn't matter if it's the same size and speed, but you also want to match timings and voltages.

But isn't buying a pair relatively cheap these days?

It used to be that different sticks could be incompatible - but that was a long time ago. Nowadays, you can mix RAM modules pretty much however you want - from my experience, if they're from a good brand and work fine individually, they will work together 99.9% of the time.

Of course, it's even safer to get a module from the same company, and more importantly, with the same chip configuration.

Most of these companies buy memory from the same source. In the end, it's pretty rare for memory to be incompatible. It's more likely to have a defective stick. Don't worry about the brand, just get the cheapest stick you can find from a company that offers a lifetime warranty.

Theoretically it's fine. Just make sure it has the same configuration aka number of pins, size/design (important for laptops) etc. (but that shouldn't be a big issue now-a-days). It would usually be best to have a pair of identical RAM sticks just for 100% compatibility, but as long as they are compatible, with specifications being mostly the same, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Like others have said, as long as it's 204-pin and DDR3, you'll be fine.

I have the stock 4GB Samsung stick, as well as two aftermarket 4GB Mushkin sticks in my laptop. Absolutely no issues since June 2011.
