Hello,
I have a 4gb stick that came with my T430 and I was wondering if it's okay to just buy another 4gb stick of different brand?
Will there be compatibility issues?
And also, what's a blue screen?
thank you!

But isn't buying a pair relatively cheap these days? -
It used to be that different sticks could be incompatible - but that was a long time ago. Nowadays, you can mix RAM modules pretty much however you want - from my experience, if they're from a good brand and work fine individually, they will work together 99.9% of the time.
Of course, it's even safer to get a module from the same company, and more importantly, with the same chip configuration. -
I bought this for my x230: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-12800CL11S-4GBSQ
Worked perfectly fine. -

Most of these companies buy memory from the same source. In the end, it's pretty rare for memory to be incompatible. It's more likely to have a defective stick. Don't worry about the brand, just get the cheapest stick you can find from a company that offers a lifetime warranty.

Does anyone know the speed of the lenovo's 4gb ram?

I usually buy crucial memory, I use the system scanner to find compatible memory, it`s guaranteed.

Theoretically it's fine. Just make sure it has the same configuration aka number of pins, size/design (important for laptops) etc. (but that shouldn't be a big issue now-a-days). It would usually be best to have a pair of identical RAM sticks just for 100% compatibility, but as long as they are compatible, with specifications being mostly the same, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Like others have said, as long as it's 204-pin and DDR3, you'll be fine.
I have the stock 4GB Samsung stick, as well as two aftermarket 4GB Mushkin sticks in my laptop. Absolutely no issues since June 2011. -

Once installed run a few passes of memtest86+ and your good to go.
