    Is it a bad idea to have two different SSD manufacturers in the same system? Specifically, Intel and Crucial M4.

    Intel = primary OS/boot drive
    Crucial M4 = storage/apps

    Situation - Picked up an M4 today because of the good price and would like to replace one of my mechanical HDD with it.

    No problem at all.
    It's the same with two HDDs.

    Go nuts. Unless you are planning to RAID them (where you would just be getting a performance hit on the faster one), not a problem at all. It's just like putting a WD 1TB data drive and a Seagate 500GB extra data drive in the same system.
