    I've been using my girlfriend's Macbook for the last few months and really like the two finger scrolling option, it seems to work so much more reliably than the scrolling feature on my PC laptops that have you run your finger alongte edge of the trackpad. Is there a 3rd party driver somewhere that can give that support to my new Windows PC? It is a P1 SXS37 (which is based off an Asus barebones) and I've seen reports of people getting this to work on Asus machines with Linux.

    No, that design is trademark of Apple, I don't think there would be any 3rd party driver that can do it.

    What about in the synaptics control panel? You can customize a lot of stuff in there.

    Unfortunately this is not one of the options in the standard driver.

    As I said apparently some people have got this working using Linux on Asus hardware, so the hardware should support it.

    I was pretty dismissive when Apple launched the two finger scrolling thing. I remember thinking how my laptop from back in 1995 could do this, and 10 years later Apple finally released a laptop with scrolling and they wanted to be considered innovators?

    ...but after using it for a few months I have to say it does work better than any PC solution I've used (and it works well in both OS X and XP). The edge scrolling just has never been that reliable for me. IT only seems to work on about 50% of the pages I want.

    So I haven't completely given up on this, and I was looking through the registry today and I found a bunch of entries for 2FingerGestures and 3FingerGestures. I don't really want to go mucking about in the registry changing settings since I don't have any idea what I'm doing, but I'd imagine that changing some of the values here might get us somewhere?

    If you have a Synaptics touchpad and are interested search the registry for "2finger"

    oh, it's TOTALLY doable. just ignore the above poster who said it wasn't. you can also look for finger_swipe, finger_flip, and finger_scroll, registry entries. you will need them each enabled (DWORD value) and set to 1.

    download the touchpad driver from the apple site. you simply need to run it with the WINE (windows emulator). it will allow low level software/applications (like drivers) to run regardless of hardware and/or OS. you DO NOT WANT the linux version of WINE. you have to use the Windows version (duh!).

    good luck.

    That's awesome.

    Just to be clear though, are these two separate ways to get to the same thing?

    In the registry I have a bunch of items with ab next to the name. All of these have REG_SZ under type. If I need to enable these how would I change the type to REG_DWORD?

    Thanks again,
    Dylan

    Wow, that's interesting, I didn't know it was possible to do this on a PC touchpad. However, is WINE completely necessary? I mean if there are already registry codes for finger gestures then maybe simply setting them to true will do the job?

    Please keep us posted! :D

    What kind of touchpad does the Eee PC use? Maybe someone could extract the driver package so people with a similar touchpad model can also do that 2 finger dance? :D

    I dunno, I just know there are youtube vids of it being done. Maybe its just the stuff listed above with the registry, or maybe its more than that. I am interested in trying the above method tho. Thing is I almost never use my touchpad. Click & Drag is a major pain ....

    It is possible for sure. It is not a hardware thing, but a software setting. As in, if you install the OS (that is not to be mentioned here) on your PC, you can do two finger scrolling.

    I went to go thru the steps to get wine & the mac driver but the wine stuff is abit much its multiple files to download and it looks like its designed for use in a "fake" windows environment.

    I actually dont understand why you would want a windows emulator thing, you need a mac emulator you would think. Oh well maybe somebody else will give it a shot its not important enough for me to mess with the hassles right now.

    why dont you guys just use strokeit or use tap zones, etc., that come with your touchpad's drivers?

    http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/

    i use right click+gesture

    mine are like..

    right movement = forward
    left = back
    up = close (alt+f4)
    down = minimize
    right down = pgdn
    right up = pgup

    I used to use tap zones and gestures, but I found I was inadvertently hitting the tapzone when I didn't want to, and never remembered to use it when I needed them. Besides, neither of these is useful for smooth scrolling, which is what I'm hoping to do.

    Sinaptics or how ever you spell it does not support it I guess but they have the edge scrolling.

    Elentech or how ever you spell it like my EEE has supports a TON of gestures, 2 finger scroll left or right, up or down.

    3 finger for window swich, or 3 finger for opening a shortcut (you can change them to anything default it opens my computer)

    Has right click with a tap of 3 fingers, middle click with a tap of 2 fingers, does zoom in/out with a pinch motion, and even has a magnifying glass with hold one finger down and tap 2x with another.

    So if you can find a enentech pad and swap it out on your machine thats one way to do things.

    Switch out the whole pad!?
    Should be possible with only software, as all touchpads can register a gesture everywhere on the pad, just like them cool ones.

    works great for me: http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-scroll/

    I am using their version 1.0.5 with the following settings:
    * Acer Aspire 5002
    * Synaptics drivers v.7.12.3.0
    * Windows XP SP2

    I particularily like the Smooth setting of two-finger-scroll project. Gratz.

    Not working on my Sony Vaio VGN-NS150D. I think the synaptics version is 7.0? After I open the file and restart, it tells me " Driver support for multiple fingers is already enabled but the driver still doesn't report multiple fingers. Either you haven't restarted the system yet or your TouchPad doesn't support multiple fingers."
    Any thoughts?

    PS: the hardware ID is "SNY9008"

    It takes ~5 Mb of RAM by default, 8 MB when using smooth scrolling.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=218872 this link is for a thread on Chiral Motion, it is for Synaptics v10.2.4 modded for Acer Gemstone series or Acer MediaTouch. I use a Asus F8SN, it worked for me, may need to uninstall the current Synaptics driver. Updating the driver afterwards may remove Chiral scrolling (12.2.11). I would think I perfer two finger scrolling.

    http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-scroll/ I have no luck getting two finger scrolling though. I use a Asus F8SN Windows Vista 32-bit. Installed twofingerscroll.exe under admin, also get message, "Driver support for multiple fingers is already enabled but the driver still doesn't report multiple fingers. Either you haven't restarted the system yet or your TouchPad doesn't support multiple fingers." Using Synaptics Touchpad v6.2, drivers 10.1.8, 10.2.4, and 12.2.11. None of them seem to successfully work for two finger scrolling.

    Chiral motion does not work for Firefox v3.

    All you have to do is install http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-scroll/

    That said, I'm not sure if it works on HP DV4t. You'd better search or ask in the HP DV4t thread:

    if you aren't sure whether your laptop's trackpad supports multitouch, and TwoFingerScroll reports errors, load up ubuntu

    hi guys,

    two finger scroll working fine on asus notebook under windows!
    (without crap like wine... ;) )[/B]

    ive searched a lot for getting two finger scroll work on my asus notebook.
    after all i wasn't able to find a solution, so i thought it might be possible only with newer notebooks (and newer touchpads).

    but after i have seen it work with ubuntu i searched again ;) and found a solution, which i wrote down here:
    [edit]

    well, its german but perhaps you can translate it with google ;)

    i use a asus f3sc notebook and it works completely fine under windows 7! =) (and also under vista, xp,...)

    missing in the two-finger-scroll app from google code:
    2/3 finger tap works really bad
    horizontal scroll doesnt work at all
    there are no gestures like 3-finger-swipe-left for navigating back in webbrowser (like on a mac)

    BUT:
    im currently writing an app which supports all those features and could be used as a replacement for the google code two-finger-scroll app.
    currently horizontal scroll only works in notepad and cooliris (???) but im gonna fix it ;)
    2/3 finger tap works too, but the tap-and-drag feature doestn. also to be fixed soon =)
    i'll write down any future developments in the blog [edit]
    feel free to share! =)

    All those gestures are working with the modded Synaptics driver from here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=306768

    If you use that in combination with the Google app, everything works.

    I have Asus A6G and it works well.

    Hi guys. I am using a Toshiba Satellite A305 with Windows 7 x64. It says that I am using a Synaptics Pointing Device - v11.2.4 14Aug08. I downloaded the two-finger-scroll thing on google code and tried running it but once I double click on the .exe it says "Synaptics Kernel Driver Registry Keys Missing. Reinstall Drivers." What does this mean? Thanks guys I REALLLY want to get this working so feedback would be much appreciated!
