My Dell M1530 laptop had a fall two weeks ago. It worked fine for a couple of hours and then crashed. Various things occurred upon rebooting, including an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME bluescreen. However, I *was* able to boot with the drive in another computer. There was some file corruption.
So I replaced the drive and ordered a new Seagate 500GB drive. It worked fine in the M1530 for two weeks. but it has now failed as well.
I tried the Seagate HD in another laptop, and it suffered the same problems. I tried the other laptop's hard drive in my M1530, and it boots just fine.
Soooooo, my thinking is that I just got some bad luck. My guess is that the first HD broke due to the fall, and the second hard drive broke due to random chance.
But I am wondering if it is at all possible that my M1530 is corrupting my hard drives. I don't know much about the connection of the HD to the motherboard. Thought I'd post here to see if any of you experts can provide any advice.
Thanks in advance!

The fall was pretty much obvious...
The second one... depends where you bought it from... you can exchange it within a 3-4 weeks
Other than that it could be a program or file corrupting the harddrive... -
Did you run seagate hard disk daig to see if disk failed it cound just been damaged file systems

I would stay away from seagate. They have firmware issues across the boards. Almost all of their drives are dying because of poorly coded firmware.
You should return your seagate drive and buy a Hitachi or a Western Digital. They do not have the problems with firmware like Seagate has.

I have used both 5400.3 and 5400.4
as well as 7200.3 series with no issues. -

A hDD failing after a fall is not bad luck, its the expected outcome.
The second HDD failing --- it could be 1) damaged in transit 2) it was bumped during install or 3) static electricity during install.
All more likely that the laptop frying the HDD -

Explain yourself, because so far sstackho is the the third of 14 reported Seagate 7200.4 owners here on nbr who already have a dead drive.
Seagate's quality has plummeted within the last year, and it can be seen across the boards. Their desktop and server line of drives have been having nasty problems for over 2 years. Their laptop line used to be pretty solid, but with ratio's like the 7200.4 id giving, I would stay very far away from it.

Two hard drive failures within weeks - bad luck or something else?
