I am considering purchasing this laptop but from an American seller. What would I need to make the power compatible with the sockets in the UK?

you'll just need a mains cable with a UK plug on the end. Probably cost you all of £3.

Don't forget about warranty issues as well, but that's the HPs come with a 1 year global warranty, so you should be good for the first year.
